EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, Fla. -- In this photo provided by the Everglades National Park, the carcass of a six-foot American alligator is shown protruding from the mid-section of a 13-foot Burmese python in Everglades National Park, Fla., after the snake apparently swallowed the alligator, resulting in the deaths of both animals.
This is strange, but it also shows us the disaster that can happen when letting pets loose in nature. The story went on to say that the pets are breeding in the wild. The alligator has no natural predators, FL snakes to not get big enough to do what this Burmese did. They are worried that this is starting to become a problem in the everglades. We should never introduce a new species into the wild, it can cause the whole enviroment to be thrown out of wack. I am sure this is making it harder for baby gators to survive the crucial first few years. Sad but true.

What I took from the article is it's sad all these pythons are being kept as pets at first, then when too big and difficult to care for, just dumped in Florida. They are directly competing with gators, for the top of the food chain there. No wonder the python thought he could eat the gator. When I read dumped/abandoned in an article, in regards to animals, even exotic 'pets', that's what I zero in on. If this naturally occurred in nature, I can handle it. More than handle it, I accept it. This was at the hands of man, indirectly of course. Which is wrong!

The snake bit off more than he could chew.

Sorry but I could not resist. I have a warped sense of humor.

I saw the picture in my local paper but it was in black & white. Seeing it in color is even grosser!
