no more daylight savings time in 2007

I heard from a friend this evening that she heard from somewhere(she couldnt remember) that in 2007 there will be no more daylight savings time anymore...

has anyone else heard this? i know it starts the 30th this month.....and anyways i guess that would be kinda cool......i really dont like it getting dark so early .....

I have heard this idea thrown around for years, but nothing ever comes of it. Haven't heard nothing recently. I doubt they will actually do that. If someone has heard of this I would like to hear about it. I don't like it getting early either, but I think I would miss it if it was gone.

Here in Arizona, our clocks stay the same year round. No DST here.

What we have to learn to do, though, is change our brains to match up with the rest of time zones around the country.

I have a couple "atomic clocks" that are supposedly corrected to the nearest second or two every day, but when there is daylight savings time around the country, these two clocks here in Arizona can't get it right for at least a week!

If DST was originally designed around the needs of the agricultural community, I suspect most of them have forgotten why.

I'm in favor of everyone joining us and keeping them the same.

Imagine all the jobs that will be cut at the carmakers who no longer have to develop confusing ways of resetting your car clocks each season. The cost of autos should go down substantially.

Let's see. While pushing on the SEEK button, hold down key number 4 for seven seconds. When the light begins to flash, hold th SCAN button in your right hand and the volume button in the other. You now have three seconds in which you can change the hour of the day on your digital clock.....etc. etc. etc.

I think your friend misunderstood.

In the energy bill Congress passed a few months ago... there was a provision to EXTEND DST. Starting next year, DST will begin in March and end in November(I don't know the exact week, but I think it will extend out by 2 weeks on either side, so 4 weeks in total). So Mid March to Mid-November(8 months) would be DST and the other 4 would be Standard Time.

Oh and BTW... we're on DST now. Standard Time(dreads) starts at the end of the month.

What I think she was saying is NO MORE daylight savings time. So that would mean darker earlier all the time even in the summer months. Poo on that. We all had it back asswards.

I had read somewhere that it would be pushed off into November. Just recently a local realtor sent out her monthly update postcard, important dates, etc. and had this on the month of October.

I was hoping this would be the first Halloween where it wouldn't get dark before 6 p.m.

Yes thanks for the link bigdog. I thought I would always like the daylight savings extended, but now on Halloween in 2007 it will still be light at 8:00 when we usually take the kids out. Breaking tradition. Halloween is always the big time change day. I'll be sad to see that part go. But Loving it in March. Thanks arkess for bringing this up.

No it won't be light at 8. What time does the sun set now? 7:30pm? It'll be about 7:00pm by the time Halloween rolls around.
