Pocket change

Do you save your pocket change? I've got a wine bottle (one gallon) that I put my pocket change in, I save it for a year (robbing most of the quarters once a week to wash the car) and when vacation time rolls around (in *29* days, not that I'm counting mind you  ) and we use it for gas money! I take it to one of the local supermarkets and use the Coin Star Machine to count it.

Last years *chump change* total was over $140, not too bad for pennies, nickels and dimes!

We save our change and cash it in at xmas - buying toys for a Shriner's Hospital Toy Drive.

But this year I think I know where the money might go and be counted soon - the hurricane relief fund(s).

And to be honest, my quarters are saved for my daughter's Dorm Laundry room. But how much laundry can one girl do in a week anyway? That won't take much....

Coppertop does that....the change mounts up quickly, and pays for his Tae Kwon Do "extras" (tournament fees, patches, etc.).

Debi also does that; she leaves her change in the car for that extra "peach tea" or "Fruit-Stuffed McPie" she's fond of on the way home from work.

If I had any change, I'd sit up and stare at it all night...

We're so cheap we won't use coin star - we roll it ourselves. When full, the change bucket usually yields about $500 just in time for Christmas.

We roll it ourselves too. The kids and Jim prefer some battery operated counter thing. I like just counting by 2's, on the kitchen table.

Funny thing is, when we're done counting and touching coins, our dog goes nuts licking our hands. She doesn't stop for 5 minutes and wags her tail like crazy. Loves the taste of metals I guess.....to calm her down sometimes, we take off her collar and let her lick the tags (we have 3 on there). She's licked the one almost blank. Note to self - order a new one, just a simple name/address/phone one.

I throw most of my change into a wine carafe, but I don't have enough will power to leave it for a year! I usually roll it up every few months and throw the rolls in my dresser; a couple of times a year I take the rolls to the bank & put in savings; once in a while I take $40 in nickles or so and go to the casino that is 30 miles away. Don't do that very often though - I always feel guilty when I lose my money; and obsess about what bill that money could have paid. (Coming from someone who spends less than $100 a year gambling LOL - I hate wasting money but sometimes it is fun).

I work my change hard.

If something costs $1.89, I'll give them $2.14 so I can get a quarter back in change.

Quarters go to the vending machines at work.
