Symantec/Norton Antivirus users - get 23rd definition now

#1 Postby bvigal » Tue Aug 23, 2005 2:35 pm

Intelligent updater had a new daily definition ready a couple of hours ago - VERY EARLY, and that's usually a sign of something very critical.

I suggest if you have their software, you download (manually) this latest updates. Just now, the "Live Update" definition was still from August 17. Go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ and follow the links for "download definitions" and Intelligent Updates. Save to your desktop, then when it's downloaded, disconnect from the Internet and double click the file to run it (exe). It will update your definitions. To be sure, open Norton Antivirus and see if it shows today's date for "virus definitions". And then run a virus check.

For those using other products, download the latest definitions as soon as you can. And then run a virus check.

From Symantec site, here is one discovered today that I would not want to get! Notice they won't have a new def for LiveUpdate until tomorrow.

The following from Symantec site: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... sip.b.html

Thanks for the notice of the new Intelligent Update release.

Doing a manual update is simple and takes seconds! It sounds as if it would be more trouble than it is.

If Live Update is "on" you don't even know when it is doing its updating, but with Intelligent Update, you actually have to go to the site, click on "download now" and once it does its download, you have to click on the exeuctable file. A couple of seconds later, you are all done. It is not THAT difficult......

Don't forget to download your Windows updates also! There are new updates (as of a couple of days ago) that improve the security of Windows and work with the virus and firewall software to protect you against this stuff. But if you haven't downloaded the Windows updates, your virus software can't protect you as well as it should...

Do these chores frequently and routinely!
