Ok, so just recently I admitted my age in the chat room. I am only 13 years old, I will be 14 at the end of the month, the class of 09. So I am only a freshman. Basically, I was 12 when I registered to Storm2k. And, if I remember correctly, I was in the 5th grade when I joined my first message board. BTW, school starts next week, on th 25th for me.

Now, back to topic, I want to hear from you. How was your first day of high school? Was it a lot different than you thought? Did you think it would be like what you see in movies? Did you meet people from your elementary school all over again? Did you hang out with the people from middle school, or did you go forth and talk to the other people? Heh heh, I hope that was not too much for you to answer.

My first day of high school was exactly like my last day of junior high. I went to a school where all twelve grades were housed in the same building. Elementary on one side - Jr. & Sr. high on the other. Stayed that way until my Junior year when they moved elementary into a brand new school. That was the year I blew up the Chemistry Lab.

There were about 52 students in the Senior class the year I graduated.

Haha Calamity didn't know that you were about the same age as me (in fact our birthdays are in the same month. ).

I'll tell you after school starts on the 25th (yeah it's ironic that we'd be living in opposite coasts and have school start on the same day LOL).

Anybody who's just one year older can tell us about their first day of school? I've a bad feeling since I just got my schedule yesterday and it was all messed up, so I'm not really starting on the right foot here on probably what is going to be one of the most important moments of my life.

My first day of high school was a RIOT...the campus had five buildings, looked more like a college than a high school, and had 5,000+ students from 10-12 in it. Try getting from M-1 to M-5 in the allotted five minutes? NOT.

Of course, that was back in the late 1960's (baby-boom and all that).

Older than dirt. Doesn't remember.

I remember my first time in High School, it was hectic, and I'm a leave it at that.

My first day of HS was awful! A day from you know what!!!

- I had to face the class I used to be with, now Sophomore's. Yes I failed a grade in grade school (bet you all didn't know that!). My former immediate group of friends, and I use that term loosely, were quite nasty and all going to my new all-girls Catholic HS. They snickered as I walked by....I got over that quick enough.

- But near the end of the day I lost my schedule.

- Came home crying. I hadn't copied anything down in my notebooks, hadn't memorized it yet. It was all set on 15 minute mods, a very strange concept to begin with!

- What didn't help was my mother became hysterical on me. Crying too - oh what will we do now? Instead of, calm down, I'm sure this happens to other students. We'll call school and get you a new copy. No - she didn't do any of this. Woe is me. Finally, the voice of reason came home from work - my dad. He calmed me down. We realized a neighbor had connections with the school office and long story short, I had a new schedule waiting for me in the office, next morning. All I had to do was walk in and request it.

- Needless to say, I make copies of my kids' school schedules. Of course they've heard this story a lot so I don't repeat it anymore.

- We didn't have a copy of Nina's new college schedule until a week ago. My family was shocked - you mean you didn't go out and make copies within 24 hours? LOL

It does help to have a rational person around when you're flipping out over something that is easily fixed - my dad. Thank Goodness he was the calm one! You do not want my mom in any emergency!!!! I sure learned that the hard way, that day.

My second day went so much better.

Didn't learn to like it till my Junior yr.

First of all I have a problem with getting lost and locks hate me. It was a nightmare finding my classes and getting their in five minutes. Their was never time to get to my locker so I carried all my books all the time. Please don't do this, it will cause permanent damage to your spine. I did enjoy all my teachers and classes (oops forgot geometry) five A's and an F. The F gave me a nervous breakdown, they put me to sleep for six weeks. Eat and sleep. Finally went back and made up my classes and had fun. Made a few nice friends.

My first day of high school was like the last day of junior high. Same kids and all, Just the teachers changed. My graduating class had over 350 kids in it. After my class graduated , they changed the name of the school from Summerlin Institute to Bartow Senior High School. It was called Summerlin Institute after the man who donated the land for the school to be built back in 1887. My class was the last class to have Summerlin Institute on our class rings. Our mascot is a Yellow Jacket insect. School colors are orange. white and light blue. Now all three are used equally in the uniformas of band , football and basketball. When I was in , it was mostly orange and white with just a touch of the blue. Class of 1974 RULES!

First day of High School for me was ugggggg.
I went to an all girls school. Put a bunch of pre-menstral females together and you have the ingredients for a time bomb!!!

Wow, now that is both freaky and ironic.

I'm hoping that it will be a smooth year, sort of like 8th grade, but with more homework. And I guess I'm pretty happy with my schedule... Luckily, we don't have science fair in high school. At least that is something I don't have to worry about.

I loved (almost) every moment of high school, but especially the first few days. The school was brand new that year and so everyone was just as lost as I was.

High school was also nothing like I thought it would be. The stereotypical bullying (sr. agains fr.), extremely difficult classes, and not being able to open my locker just didn't happen. Instead, I discovered a foreign language (French), speech/debate/drama, and a whole new group of friends, a few of which I still keep in contact with today.

Same here. Except I learned Spanish, and most of my friends were freshmen like me. I did meet a few new friends, some of which I still see at least once a week (at church). Unfortunately, a lot of my friends are gone to UK (University of Kentucky). Not many of us stayed here. As for being lost...didn't happen too much to me after the first day. By the end of my jumior year, I didn't get lost at all.

Well, two years ago was a tad confusing. I forgot to turn down the right hall, and ended up having to turn around twice. I also didn't realize that no one in school used there lockers because all the classes were so far apart. I had to go get everything out of my locker the first day, and was late to 3rd block (thank goodness the teachers understand on the first day!). I've never used my locker in teh two years since, and get along fine carrying everything in my bookbag. (I don't know if they do that everywhere though.) I had to adjust to the block schedule (4 classes for 90 min Aug-Jan and then 4 new classes in Jan-Jun) because it really made for the long, boring feeling. But it all turns out fine in three days and no one remembers anything dumb you did the first day. Being a junior this year though will be nice, especially for a 14 year old!

Coppertop just started his senior year today; you guys want a "blow-by-blow" account from him?

On the first day of high school us 10th graders were herded like cattle to orientation and then around the building to learn where all the important areas were, such as the clinic, cafeteria, drink machines, and last but not least the principals office. I would be well aquainted with the principals office during my 3 years there. If course there was the mandatory teasing from the juniors and seniors most of which already has their cars and licenses.
