Have you ever come across someone who no matter what you say, you are wrong. Or, whatever you say, they make you feel stupid for even talking. How do these people get their power. If you say white, they say black.
If someone posts something on the forums, and give their opinion, these people can shut them down fast, like their opinion is wrong and not worthy of posting.
I want to tell all these people who have offended me and others, thank you for your opinion, but you are not always right.
I am not talking about posters, but everyday people in general that we have to live with on this planet.

Unfortunately, they are out there and they do invade our lives from time to time. It's a combination of insecurity and a power trip on their part. They need to beat someone else down just to make themselves look better. Another term for this type of a person is "bully". Been there, done that with them and I'm sure there's more to come. The best thing to do with them is to ignore them and deal with them as little as possible, unless they're your boss. I had one of those - she was such a peach!

This does not only apply to me much, but it has happened. I posted this because I have heard this from a lot of other people. These bullies can really affect a persons job and life making it hard for them. They must get great satisfaction from it all. I feel sorry for the people they belittle and so sad that it happens all the time.

I does rock your confidence because it makes you think in the beginning while you're trying to do the best you can for him/her that you're a failure. After awhile you get wiser to what is going on. I think that the best thing to do is to call them on their tone right then and there. Turn the tables on them and ask them why they always talk down to you or even tell them that you don't appreciate how they talk to you. That usually stops them in their tracks.

I know exactly what you mean. That is why I like this board so much. I have been and I am still a member of a board where you have that mentality. No matter the subject, some people are just there to be mean. And it get personal sometimes. I am sure a lot of people are afraid to post anything.

I know this has nothing to do with posting anything, but the day after April Fools, I was falsely accused of looking at stuff at a cyber cafe without showing me any evidence, and they told me I was banned, end of discussion. How's that about people telling me I'm wrong.

I work with a know-it-all co-worker.. Sure sometimes he is right but when he is wrong it best not argue with him unless you want to listen to a super pompous drawn out opiniated speech... Unfortunately I just turn a deaf ear to him when he is on his high horse because he thinks he's right no matter what and the more you argue with him, the more he will try to twist the words around to confirm what he is saying as the truth. I see this not as a power struggle as much as insecurity on his part. Needless to say my other co-workers and I just bite our tongues around him to avoid confrontation with him. It makes for a stressful work environment! I'm glad I have a forum such as this to vent my frustrations about him, thanks for listening!!!

Stephanie is right.
Most of the time, those people who claim to be right all the time have an insecurity problem.
Since it takes both effort and a listening ear for them to raise the bar higher and join in an intelligent conversation, they choose the easy way out. They do what they can to "lower" the bar by bringing down the other person to their level.
Finding fault in others is sometimes the only way some people can feel like they fit in.
Fortunately, though, it is their problem, not yours. Just don't try to meet them head on at their level if you can help it. They win if that happens...and it just feeds their need to do it again in the future.

You got that right! I worked with a guy that whose mission in life is to pompous all over everyone. His job knowledge is nil so he covers up his ignorance with buzz words and corporate rhetoric. He tried that on me one time and I kicked him out of my office telling him, "You need to shift your paradigm out of my office right now." That was the end of that.
