This just broke my heart when I read this. As tragic as it is and I know that the grandfather would never had meant this to happen but there are just a few things you do not do on ATVs. They will flip over if on uneven terrain. I am not an expert on ATVs but we do have one. Yes, I have riden my children on one but they do have helmets on, they ride with me or my husband, and we do not ride on uneven terrain. Both of my husband and I have read the manual and watch the saftey tape that came with the atv. We have also read several articles on safety. It doesn't make me an expert by no means but riding up a dirt pile like that just breaks my heart.
And I do feel for the grandfather. It seems like he was very close to his grandson and it is just tearing him up what has happen. I am by no means putting the blame on him because I can almost guess that he is already doing that.
I just hope that people realize that ATVs must be taken seriously and that there are dangers to riding them.
