They try to cut summer down here as much as possible. I feel for the students who live in the west coast of Florida as they go back the first days of August. I remember when school ended in early June and went til late Aug early Sept. Now its late May to early Aug.

Me too! I really enjoyed those long summers as a kid. My son and daughter started back on August 1st. The funny thing is, they are not going to school any longer. Between fall break, Christmas break, spring break, and a bunch of teachers workdays and new holidays, they have to start early just to get in a full school year. They have a total of 33 school days during this year off, which includes the breaks, holidays, and teachers work days. During my time in school we had about 18, 10 for Christmas break, 5 for spring break, and 3 for holidays.

Wed. August 24th
The dates have been posted on one of our area's two HS's for weeks. Each time we drove by, we joked, if one of those numbers had been a 6, we could have flipped it to a 9. Can't believe I was even on that prank of an idea. Not that I'd ever let my kids do such a thing!
But when a school posts a message like this:
School Resumes August 24th!
Enjoy your Summer!
It is just begging for tampering!!!!

august 11th is when kis in our school district go back. A few districts have already started and some will follow a little later too. The TX legislature is trying to force the school start date back to the day after labor day.
