Apparently ABC affiliates have been told to prepare for his death at anytime. He was diagnosed with lung cancer several months ago and hasn't been seen on-air since. So sad...

He is a truly great person and a one of a kind anchor. He will be sorely missed. I was so dreading this news.

I saw that earlier and was looking around to see what else I could find. News Blues apparently broke the story.

Peter Jennings had a way of talking to me when he reported the news. It is a rare thing to be able to communicate that way with strangers.

I hope he goes peacefully and with dignity...as he will be remembered as a very good journalist at least by me.

I remember him reporting and not leaving the studio during the 9/11 aftermath. He did an extraordinary job covering that. He was so calm and rational about the whole horrible experience he made me feel calmer. I will miss him he truly is one of the great anchormen of all time!

While I did not watch him as much as other news anchors, I did grow up watching him and remember him. I also remember he hosted a spectacular program called, "The Century, America's Time" and wrote the book. Man, I was a history buff (STILL AM) in the 5th-8th grade and read his book so many times! My prayers are with him and his family, god bless you Peter...take care pal.

Oh that is so sad. He went downhill pretty fast didn't he? Seems like a few weeks ago, the sad diagnosis was revealed. I do hope he doesn't suffer and goes without severe pain.

Peter Jennings will always have a very special place in the Journalism world.

I was wondering how he was doing. It seemed like he announced that he had lung cancer and nothing else. I hate to hear this news. I watched my uncle suffer and die from lung cancer last year and it is not something that I would want anybody to go through.

It is tough to go through cancer treatment, however, I wish the best for Peter and his family. He is one strong man!

However, I cannot find conclusive evidence that the 'near death' statements are fact. Everything that I've seen, ABC has denied the reports.

Post 291... sounds like it's true but they are trying to keep it inside ABC's walls. Strange.

and this...

Also, sounds macabre, but obit tape in sitting on EIC's desk in NYC.
