My god!!

Any early estimates at what kind of numbers? Since it just skidded off, maybe 10-20 deaths at MOST. or am I way wrong?

CP24 said as many as 305 could be on board if it was full.

Large explosion just happened.

Uh... the plane is on fire. Not a high survival rate.

Loss of life potential very high according to CTV.

Canadian networks in rolling coverage, of course.

This kind of stuff doesn't happen in Canada!!

There could be...it all depends on when the plane caught fire. There have been numerous crashes (particularly with Fedex) where the plane crashed, the people on board escaped, and then it caught fire.

However, if it caught fire as soon as it impacted the ground, that is another story. You don't really have more than a few seconds to get out before the toxic fumes overcome you. Think back to the Air Canada DC-9 that crashed in CVG (?) years ago-landed perfectly intact, but dozens were killed by the fire before they could escape.

We will see soon.

I would expect the A340 to be pretty full as it is in the middle of summer... :(

Reports of quite a few survivors... but I'm trying not to get too excited about it yet.

This is spooky...

20 years ago today, on August 2, 1985, a Delta Air Lines Lockheed L1011-385-1 crashed while attempting to land at Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport, Texas in a thunderstorm. 134 of the 163 passengers and crew aboard were killed.
