Aaron Spelling shows

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Tue Aug 02, 2005 10:45 am

Anyone else here ever watch "2000 Malibu Road?" I just happened upon JTS comment I made a couple of years ago -- http://www.jumptheshark.com/t/2000maliburoad.htm (Mine is the first comment)

Like I said there, 2000 was the first Aaron Spelling show I was ever hooked on. Sure, I watched others, but if I missed an episode or twenty, it didn't kill me. Of course, now I'm into watching reruns of Melrose Place on SoapNet on weekends. :)

I'm just wondering if I was one of the only fans of this short-lived show.

I watched 90210 and Melrose Place! But not this new show...sorry, never got into Malibu. MP sort of was an off shoot of 90210, so once I began watching 90210, it was easy to branch off into MP.

I no longer have Soapnet so I have no idea where MP is, season-wise. Has Kimberly showed up yet? She's something else on that show....my MP faves were Billy, Allison, Jo, Jake and Jane. In my not so favorite group were Kimberly, Sydney, Michael (cheating, no good husband!), and Amanda. On MP there were almost 2 definite groups - one nice, the other not so nice. Somewhat unusual for a night time soap!

Here's an episode guide I freqent, if you want to look episode info up:

From the looks of it, the ones I've seen so far have been in the 80's and early 90's (episode #'s) from the third season. Come on, Mary -- Has Kimberly shown up yet? Why do you think I'm watching? :D

The last one was a week ago (not sure why it wasn't on this weekend) -- the one where Michael came back from the trip with Amanda, got into it with Kimberly about her insurance money, and then Kimberly tried to kill herself and he wasn't going to call an ambulance until he had to when Sydney came by. So, that's where I am now. Several episodes ago, Matt and Kimberly were arguing and he threw out, "Your wig's crooked" at her, so obviously I missed some of the really good stuff with her illness.

Edit - wait, now I'm seeing that the wig was a result of a coma (brain surgery, I guess?) and that the really good *sick* Kimberly comes out in just a few more episodes (as long as SoapNet continues to air them in order). Looks like she was pretty crazy. I've read how fans loved "crazy" Kimberly the best and that it JTS when she left. Guess I'll find out for myself now.

You know, Marcia Cross could never be a Scientologist. First, she's made a name for herself playing a handful of mentally ill people already (on MP and in a TV movie called "All She Ever Wanted" about a woman who was bipolar who stopped taking her meds so she could carry out a pregnancy -- good movie, not totally psycho on her part, but convincing). And second, she has a degree in psychiatry now. :)

Rambling, aren't I? When it comes to entertainment, I can't help it. :)

LOL @ Shawn.....ramble on anytime...

Yeah, you missed a very shocking scene, the end of an episode when Kimberly simply walked into the bathroom. Began pulling aside her hair, as if to take a bobby pin or barrette out, same shade and cut, you never suspected it was a wig and suddenly she whips that baby off. Yikes! I remember gasping outloud - seriously. Hideously nasty, gnarly looking scar too....

I watched 90210 more and a few seasons of MP. So I don't recall exactly what the explanation was as to her surgery.....

I remember one time tuning back into MP and seeing Jane all chummy with Michael - I was like, WTH (switching heck for another word here)? LOL I think friends who watched told me he turned nice....I just never bought it! It would be JR Ewing suddenly becoming ethical and faithful to a wife - oh sure.....LOL

My faves on 90210 were Brandon and Kelly. I still wish those two characters had ended up together.

I've never heard of Malibu (the show), but watched Melrose Place without fail. It was the greatest trash ever! I did not watch 90210 very often.

And one more thing....same with the Friends apt. (Monica's)....didn't you all want to live in an apt. complex like on MP? With the pool in the middle? Many, many outdoor scenes took place there. I just always thought the setting, the gate in and out (there was a gate wasn't there?), winding staircases, etc. were pretty cool. Like nothing you see here in the Midwest!

I don't believe I am admitting to this but I will admit it anyway...I was a big 90210 fan. Watch it every week it came on. Even videotaped it. Melrose place was interesting in the beginning but soon lost interest in it. I remember there being a show called Malibu but I don't think I watched it.

I know Mary liked Friends, but I thought that apartment was a dump. Wasnt crazy about the people who lived there either.

Now the Melrose apts were cool and I must agree about the courtyard. Neat place, indeed.

Alicia - LOL That's okay, either you loved Friends or you didn't. Guess you can say I did. Devoted fan here, from day one. Hooked my two daughters on the show, so much so they kick my butt in the Friends Trivia Game! When life becomes too hard to deal with, we pop in a Friends episode. In minutes, we're laughing. Usually seconds. That's why we love Friends so much. It instantly takes you somewhere else. I liked Monica's apt. but one thing did annoy me - her character is supposed to be a neat freak. That apt. was never dirty, just eclectic. In the real world, someone who was that fussy, wouldn't have mismatched kitchen chairs, different colors. It would have had a more unified look. But my girls loved that eclectic look.

I was a little embarrassed to admit I was a fan of 90210 also. Being a mom of little kids then, it did seem odd if you told people. Of course I could say - oh I identify with the parents. Sure that would fly....he he. Something about watchng those kids get thru HS and all their troubles, was interesting each week. Also to see former Mid-western kids Brandon and Brenda try to fit in out in Beverly Hills, was again interesting. In the real world, they wouldn't fit in. Or at least Brandon wouldn't so easily - not with is old fashioned views on the world. I thought when Shannen Dorerty left, the role of Brenda would really be missed, Brandon's other half was gone. But the show seemed better w/o her actually! That's also unusual. Most shows flounder when a core member leaves, but another example would be Cheers. When Shelley Long left, everyone asked - Diane who? LOL
