Important information - Hack attempts
Over the last week or show there have been multiple attempts to either hack weather boards or obtain usernames and passwords. These attempts have come against EasternUsWx , Storm2k and Derek's site. Fortunately none have been successful so far and everyone involved is working together to track these people now and get action taken. If you receive an e-mail requesting your username or password to STORM2K please contact me immediately. Do not erase the e-mail as it may have important tracking information that we need.

Actually we do not have access to anyone's password. They are encrypted within the database. If you ever forget your password we can give you a new one but we can't see the old one.

If I don't recognize the name, it gets deleted. If I recognize
the name, and, it has a large attachment, it gets deleted,
anyway (I'm on slow dial-up). If I recognize the name and
it has a small attachment, I scan it, first.
Thanks for the heads-up, Marshall! I'd love to share MY job
with those slackers....uuummmm....I mean...hackers...!

No doubt in my mind it is related to the another weather board which shut down a few days ago. There were disturbing activities there which appeared to be hacking, and a known personality who did, indeed, appear to be intent upon flooding the board with messages under multiple identities, using various schemes (websites, picture and sound file offers, etc.) to obtain people's confidential information. After months of regular posters begging for some attention from the Admins, they finally took a look, with the result being the entire board is down.
This board is moderated so well!
I can't express how much safer I feel on this site, and thanks to all of you spending your time at this nobel endeavor! However, as IT pro, I'd warn to make regular backups. There are many forums on the net which have been hacked the last few months.
This board is moderated so well!

In the last two weeks I've been hit twice with someone trying to get information from me. One was in connection to South Trust Bank - an account that had been closed for a month and the other was with PayPal. I didn't answer either of them, of course. Earthlink put them in to the possible spam file for me and I quickly deleted them. I no longer trust the computer enough to order anything over it. If I can't phone in with a credit card number, I just don't order.

I look for sites that allow me to print off order forms, then use the good, old Post Office for money orders and mailing. Why ask for trouble?
