Relaxing from going cross-eyed on the Talkin' Tropics and got to thinking, (dangerous, I know!)

I am one of those rare southern males that cooks every day. This evening I grilled a pork loin that I marinated in a home-made lemon-pepper marinate, made some garlic mashed potatoes from scratch, new peas, and yeast rolls. When you guys cook, what do you make for supper?

Varies so much every night, from baked potato with tuna on, to steaks and 'french fries'...

But now I am hungry, and eating at 1:31 am is going to be a mission

Whenever your birthday was HAPPY BIRTHDAY :new-bday:

And at that, *looks at time* I will go have my 2 am supper, then sleep.. and thus return in the morrow unto that which is soon-to-be-Emily ( I think )

Thank you! It was Friday. Just getting to celebrate it today though - all the tropical activity threw a wrench into it!

:bday:

Since you didn't get the storm, it's a real "Happy Birthday!" It's a nice treat to get to use the candles on the cake, and not for "power outage" illumination!

Thank you!

I love my candles, but I REALLY love my air conditioning!! I was without power for over 12 hours after Cindy and I was fussing up a storm. I had to sit back and remind myself that I could have been been worse, I could have been without it for 12 days, so chill out :D

I fixed a stuffed mancotti with a filling from my Stuffed Green pepper recipe. Had Baby broccoli florets and salad to go with it. Will have some ice cream later.

I cook all of the time for my kids; they are gone tonight, so I had Subway - I live in a town of about 1500, so we are lucky to have anything like that LOL.

Ate out this evening at a local cafeteria with my folks...I got beef tips in gravy over rice, corn, green peas (they also have black-eyed peas here in the South) so made that distinction  , a piece of chocolate cake and a glass of water. :)

Well, my hubby doesn't do any of the cooking unless it's manning the grill. I'd like him to try more items on the grill besides just meat (he simply wants brats and metts all the time, ugh!). Years ago when our kids were small I got really burned out on cooking. So he took over and started preparing dinner. We dubbed him the weekend chef. He absolutely forgets this phase and says I dreamed it all up. I didn't!!! He occasionally gets back into cooking but here's the thing.....

He can never just open the fridge/freezer and food cupboards, making do with what is here.

No, he has to get on the Internet and download new recipes to try. Making a grocery list b/c of course the recipe calls for unusual items. He puts so much time and effort into this short phase project, that he burns himself out.

And then I'm back to cooking again.....LOL

LOL, food always seems to taste better when someone else cooks it! It's either that, or the fact that I am never hungry once the meal is prepared. I can't cook without sampling as I go, so I'm usually full by the time I'm finished :D

Ditto drudd - it does taste better when someone else prepares it. And you had nothing to do with the work involved!

My hubby has me trying the 30 minute Rachael Ray meals from the Food Network Channel. He said she makes it seem so easy and it is, if you have the ingredients on hand. That's what annoys me - you'll see a new recipe but then have to make a grocery run. Grrrrrr! Several of her recipes have called for Fennel. I had never tried this vegetable before and even had to ask the produce clerk once. An older man doing produce stock and he smiled - you don't know what Fennel is, do I look enough that I should know that? he he But he was nice and walked me over to that section, handing me a 'bulb'. I learned something new that day and have used this veggie several times now. It tastes like licorice! Another cute thing he did was say - it used to be called Anise. Aha, he was saying I was an old fart.....LOL Now Anise I've heard of before...just never used it in dishes I've prepared.

Well, when I make supper, it's usually coneys, 3-ways (yes with Cincy chili), or tuna salad sandwiches. Sometimes I make spaghetti and meatballs too. But I don't cook every night, maybe 1-2 times a week at most. I haven't made supper for about 2 weeks now (not that I'm being lazy, I just wasn't asked to). That will change tomorrow night, because my mom has to be somewhere until late tonight.
