I need tons and tons of good thoughts at this point...after news I received at the doctor's office, I think I'm going to cry.
I just found out that I may need neurological surgery to put a shunt in my head so that some pockets of fluid in my brain can drain out. And it may well be sometime soon.

I'm not sure when right now, but I do know I've had sleep problems as of late which they say could well be related to those pockets of fluid. I haven't even told my folks yet, but plan to this evening as soon as mom gets home. My eyes are tearing up just thinking of what that conversation may do to my mom, who has been under so much stress in this last year.

This is gonna hurt her, as bad as it's doing to me. Thanks guys for letting me vent or whatever I just did.

Jeremy.. I have a shunt in my head.. and It's been working wonders for sure..
Having 1 put in is not so bad.. Just be a little extra careful in the afternoon heat and try not to do anything strenuous and you'll be all good.
Prayers headed your way

thanks everyone. It helps to know my mom took this news really well. She's been through a lot with me over almost 20 years, and I can't thank her enough for that.

Jeremy - knowing you need major surgery is very scary. I know the feeling well and it's very unsettling. Please listen to John here, he's the voice of experience in this. Lean on him, since he's had one. Lean on all of us to pray and be your sounding board too. I know you are worried about how your mom will handle this. Just do what has to be done and the rest will just fall into place. I am a firm believer in that saying - God doesn't give us more than we can handle. I swear when I heard the C word, in 1999, I briefly felt like giving up or in. Then a fighting spirit inside me said no, I'll get thru this. You will get thru this - keep telling yourself that. In time you will believe it.
Hugs and prayers coming.
Mary

Jeremy....indeed the support is coming your way. I have an employee whose son has gone through a very similar neurological situation....a shunt to drain fluid. They actually were able to reduce the problems he was having with dizziness and headaches and lack of concentration almost completely for long periods of time.
Get a second opinion if you have any doubts at all, but don't give up on any chances for improving your health and your life.
We're with you all the way!
