Just got home from the hospital. Surgery went well, he was drugged up and sore when I left(as expected). Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

Weathermom - my husband had an emergency appendectomy in 1998. I remember the worry and what his recovery was like. Be prepared for a few rough days when he gets home. I remember my husband having trouble managing pain with oral meds - the IV pain meds were rapid. His first night trying to get comfortable was very difficult. We have a water bed and he finally ended up in our guest room at the time, which was a regular queen sized mattress. I hadn't even changed the sheets yet from the recent previous guest - he did not care. Our children were younger then and underfoot. My advice would be if you have little children, get someone to watch them. I was a nurse-maid for about 48 hours and it was very hectic. And my husband is not your typical I stubbed my toe baby of a guy. He's very self sufficient, "I never get sick" kind of a guy. He just didn't expect to have such pain from such a small incision, his words. So just get yourself prepared now - if he's still in the hospital - go grocery shopping, stock up on items like that. Make a place for him to rest at home - bed, couch, a quiet area. I also kept track of his meds on paper - your nic says wxmom, kids are very distracting, not sure how many you have, but if I hadn't been writing down the specific day and time Jim got his Versid, I could have overmedicated him - he was out of it and relying upon me to take over.
It was just a wild 48 hour period but we did get thru it. This is when I told my daughters - do not bother me unless there's blood. Their eyes bugged out when I said that!
Good luck - you'll do fine but just be prepared to be needed more than you think you might be. I'll pray too, that's a given.
