There have been 1,928 coalition troop deaths, 1,741 Americans, 89 Britons, 13 Bulgarians, one Dane, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Hungarian, 25 Italians, one Kazakh, one Latvian, 17 Poles, one Salvadoran, three Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and 18 Ukrainians in the war in Iraq as of June 28, 2005.

Of course there is the overall death count that is much higher. As I understand it only those killed in country are counted and not the ones who die enroute to Germany or after. I posted an animated map earlier in the week that showed where each one was as the days moved on. Not sure if you clicked on the thread to see it.

and of course, we will never know how many HAVENT DIED due to their heroic sacrifice

Yes, they are all true Americans and will never be forgotten for their service.

They gave their lives so we and other countries can be safer. I say thanks to all of them.

Don't forget approximately 25000 Iraqi civilians have lost their lives too to date... You can concentrrate on US numbers all you want, but these people have no choice to be there or not

The numbers posted were a total of COALITION troops lost, not just US troops. You can thank the insurgents for the majority of the Iraqi civilian lives lost, not the troops.

True... but it's better than another 9/11, likely this time with chemical or biological weapons which would make the first 9/11 pale in comparison.

I don't think so...if we weren't in Iraq, had never gone to Iraq, whatever, they'd STILL want and try to kill as many of us on our own soil (or elsewhere) as they could...and then some.

They cannot be placated, negotiated with, bought off, or dealt with in any other way than "their death or ours". THEY set the rules of engagement...WE HAVE to step up to the plate and DELIVER. PERIOD.

I'm still grateful to those who served over two centuries ago so that we could be a free and independent nation and to all those who have since served so that we may remain a free and independent nation.

I don't know about that... every terrorist killed is one less that wants to kill Americans.

Well Iraq is turning into a training ground for any terrorist or wanna be terrorist. Now we seem to be ramping up for the next target, Iran.

Yes, now insurgents know how to kill American soldiers. The war in Iraq was a strategic mistake. The conduct of that war was effective until victory. Those men who died are all patriots and good men.

Did the war stop terrorists from gaining access to nuclear, biological, or chemical resources? No. There are stockpiles in Russia, the old Soviet states, Syria, Iran, and North Korea.

Almost 2,000 men died to eliminate a contained threat. I will never support a war which cost so much for so little. As for the millions liberated, that does not change the strategic nature of the blunder.

Maybe I am reading this the wrong way, but I dont think anyone was directly blaming our soldiers for the loss of civilian lives in Iraq. I thought the point was just that our soldiers arent the only innocent people dying on the battlefield .... and its worth remembering that.

Thanks also to all of the Brits (and others) who have lost their lives fighting this war. Their sacrifices will not be forgotten either...
