Renters Insurance Needed

#1 Postby TreasureIslandFLGal » Fri Jun 17, 2005 12:41 pm

I tried and couldn't find any last year, so here I go again... Does anyone know of any company that offers hurricane insurance for renters? I only want to get insurance in the event of a storm - to cover contents of my place, in the event of a windstorm. I don't want to be forced into getting full coverage insurance with liability, flood, fire and all the other junk for a full year. The only thing I am worried about is my windows being blown out and my stuff getting damaged because of the wind and rain coming in. That is it.
Doesn't anybody insure for what you want to insure for and not all the other crap??? The per year insurance rate for all the other junk ends up costing as much as everything inside I'm trying to insure after just a few years!
In North Carolina I was able to get it, but in Florida they try to rip you off if you live in an "A-zone" flood area. They insist you get flood insurance... even if I am on the 9th story of a concrete building built to the bedrock!

Liberty Mutual used to offer just renter's contents insurance. Your landlord should have the flood/fire/etc. on your building. Might try them - I just looked at libertymutual.com and they advertise renters insurance, but you have to call directly.

You might try your local Nationwide Agent. I use them and they are reasonable and very helpful.

Well, I live on this beautiful little barrier island that got demolished by a hurricane 105 years ago and I didn't have a problem getting renter's insurance at a reasonable rate -- $20 per month per $10,000 worth of "stuff."

Try this guy:

Suite 100
Clearwater, FL 33764
(727) 530-5628 | gregchesney@allstate.com

Auto, home, renters, condominium, life and financial services. Drive like an angel, make out like a bandit with our low car insurance rates. You are in good hands with an Allstate agent.
