My daughter bought 2 baby turtles a year ago. We started them in a 10 gallon aquarium until they got too big. The next step was a 90 gallon pre-formed pond in the yard. That is until they out grew that!

No gators but we've already had a couple of frogs move in Just don't ask how much we spent on the )&*!^*)!&@^ pond lol

I think your daughter is incredably lucky to have such a fantastic daddy as you! *smiles fondly and gives the biggest huggers possible* All that is missing on the website is a pic of you and your girl with the turtles! The website is absolutely adorable and made me smile many times. You did a fantastic job.

Thanks! My "baby" is 14 almost 15. She was out there with me digging the "money pit" I'll add some pictures of her with the turtles this week-end.

Don't let my wife see those pictures!!!!! She'll want me to fix our pond which has laid dormant since we bouth the houses 18 years ago!

Good deal! And no matter how old she gets she'll always be your baby! And hey.. special memory like that.. even a hard work memory.. is worth more then any amount of money! I know you'll agree

Actually we started in early April. I've been here too long to try and do something like that now. FYI the turtle laid her eggs on Mother's Day! How appropriate is that?

Thanks for the positive comments all. We really enjoy sitting on the porch in the evenings and watch the turtle and koi feed. As soon as I stop the waterfall they all gather for dinner. Guess they have me well trained

My mother was always rescuing turtles (hers were terrapins, actually) ... and she put them in her back yard which was completely enclosed with a brick wall... Which was fine except that one year one or more of the turtles laid eggs and the whole yard was filled with little silver dollar sized turtles!

A lot of them were released to the wild (she had contacts in Fish & Game Service) but for about 30-40 years her yard still seemed to serve as a sort of terrapin refuge. And people would find turtles and drop them off on our doorstep in the middle of the night so the collection was always gowing...

She never conned us into building something elaborate like yours. She just had these little ponds lined with odd stuff (mostly old bricks holding plastic liners that looked like H*ll and served as pitfalls for the unwary... But the turtles did not care...

So watch it, Marshall, as this can become a life-long project...

Since turtles can live up to 80 years and Koi live from 15-45 years this may be a life project for my daughter. You wouldn't believe how many people in the area have stopped by to look and chat. We've live in this house for 18 years and have met more new people since the pond went in. Who would figure?
