UPDATED: WAL MART ADVANCEMENT POSSIBILITY! :)

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Sun Jun 12, 2005 9:19 pm

No I don't have a new position yet.. BUT...

I've got a good feeling I might.. Here's the details..

On Friday.. 1 of the Personnel bosses' put up a "Job Opening" sheet. A sheet that usually gets put up for Dept. Manager positions and occasionally for sales associate positions.

Well.. Today.. I signed up.. The position.. is for a "sales associate/stocker" in my Wal Mart's pharmacy. The shift is 2nd shift from 2-11. {That's the only part I'm not looking forward to if I get it lol} I'm starting to really like 8-5's.. lol But I have been told that "2-11 is always the "initiation" into a position to see if you can tough it out.. then after 2-3 months.. they will slowly begin to rework your hours".. {That's what happened with my cart pusher job.. plus a near fatal accident helped lol}

Anyway.. I was told.. The "sign up sheet" will be taken down by Tuesday. In about a week.. Debbie Pearles {the Pharmacy Manager} will interview the candidates and decide which if any qualify for the position.

So far.. there is only 1 candidate for the job.. ME! lol.. I really hope I get it.. I just gotta be patient.. I know I can nail the interview.. It's just will I impress Mrs. Pearles enough.

Also there is 1 more hurdle to clear.. Before I "get the job" {assuming I am offered it}.. My current BOSS HAS TO CLEAR THE WAY FOR ME TO GO! lol.. So if she says "You can't go.." then I'm outta luck.. Personally.. I think that's insane.. lol..

I would really like to go back to 2nd shift.. but at the same time.. I wanna stay on 1st. But also at the same time.. I know if I wanna advance in the company.. I gotta occasionally make some sacrifices.

My only fear is that my current boss won't let me go because I have become in the precarious position of almost being too good at my current position.. that they don't wanna move me..

feel free to chime in :wink:

I'd encourage you to make the move to 2nd shift. My husband works for Walmart. He's been on the overnight stocking crew/receiving team for 9 years now. He's kind of in the same position - he's got opportunities to move up but feels a little nervous about the change.

I say go for it! It may lead to even better opportunities down the road. :D

My experience has been that it's not good Management practice to try to retain an employee that clearly would like to move on, such as yourself, no matter how 'good' he or she is. I hope that's the case for you -- good luck with the new position! You sound like a very enthusiastic and dedicated employee. They're lucky to have you!

I hope I get the job.. But I am suddenly facing opposition lol.. My mother hopes I actually do NOT get it..

She is too afraid if I go back to the 2-11 or 3-Midnight shift.. I'll end up getting hurt again because I may have to once again start using my bicycle as transportation to get from point A to point B.. {since the buses only run past my apt complex till 10-1030.}

I'll admit.. I'm very comfortable being in an 8-5 grind right now.. but I really do miss the 2nd shift.. I developed a lot of bonds with 2nd shifters because the shift I started at Wal Mart was 2-11. 2nd shifters were also the 1's who came rushing to me when they knew I was almost killed in that accident in December.

I do really hope I get the job though.. I think I deserve the chance.. Plus.. I think it'd be a great oppurtunity..

Why don't you buy a cheap used car? Craigslist always has a few of them listed under $2000. :)

1 of my current bosses even told me today.. "You'd be so happy there.. You'd be the only 1 in the department most of the shift {all dept managers go home at 4}.. You'd have the whole area all to yourself.. work at your own pace.. I hope you get it"

Of course.. the actual "pharmacy" is open till 8-9 but I'd be stocking the OTC's

On that end, I am a supporter of the environment, but being a cart pusher for 8 hours a day... talk about getting a workout to, during and from work. :lol: How far is your Wal-Mart from home, John?

I never walk "to" work.. I walk about 3 blocks each AM to the bus stop.. and it's the same distance from the bus stop home..

If you're curious though.. The trip from home to work is about 3 miles..

My son rides his bike or walks to and from work every day, 5 miles round trip. The exercise wont kill him and I dont have to pay exorbitant insurance every month for him to drive the Lexus...

we do take him up there in really bad weather, otherwise, he had a rain coat....
