What about France?

We all know the defiance France has shown the United States concerning this war. After the war started Chirac announced that his views on the war would "indeed change" if Iraq uses chemical weapons or has them.

I am sure Msr. Chirac will qualify his words by saying they haven't attacked with the missiles yet.

The role of France in a post-war Iraq should be "humanitarian", indeed; they can send teams to clean the toilets. The Germans can "do windows", and as for the Russians...uh...hmm...they can wash clothes.

I heard about some of our soldiers having skin rashes and being nauseated? Has anyone else heard this?

JQ.... Just the mere fact that we have found any chemical substance is enough for France to eat crow. Their whole argument against the United States was that Iraq had none. And the whole part of anti war protestors is that they do not posses them either. With that being said, that warrants the ole' crow eating.

I know but they found chemicals in a shed beside a farm. These same chemicals that set off the chem weapons signals are found in pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers. Also no chem weapons masks or suits were found near it so i doubt these were chem weapons, b/c it would take those to handle the substances.

True JQ. I guess we will just have to wait and see what this substance tests for. Then we can come back to this thread.

Why not jq?? Just a feeling or what? Just curious.. I for one have no doubt in my mind that we will find many "Smoking Guns" before it is all over... So lets get that crow ready

o just from my statement earlier. It was found on a farm. It triggered chem weapons alarms, but so do fertilizers, as well as insecticides/pesticides. Also no chem weapon paraphenalia *sp?!* was found. As in no masks, or suits which would be used to handle these weapons. Just a hunch. Lol i wouldn't know know for sure...but its my hypothesis.

JQ, that half-buried trench I saw was no "farm shed"; besides, it was an Iraqi soldier (now POW) that led us to this particular installation. How could he have known which "farm" to go to?

How about the twenty or so missiles with chemical warheads on them. First reports are that they are loaded and "ready for use".

I saw that article too Marshall.

Rumsfeld et all. are being very cautious (as they should) about stating these are "smoking guns" until further tests are done. We won't know for a while, but hopefully we've uncovered something that will put the doubts to bed once and for all. I for one want to see it and have it confirmed that that's what those chemicals were. I think Bill (?) mentioned earlier in another thread that some pesticides contain chemicals that are found in nerve gas, etc. It was good to have that Iraqi civilian point that out to us.

Stephanie,

Remind me, some time, to introduce you to "The Poor Man's James Bond" book...you would be SHOCKED at what weapons one can make from common household items!

Of course, the base ingerdients for some of these agents MAY be used as pesticides or other agricultural needs, but the point is that among these barrels found is "lewisite" mustard gas...which has NO other application.

I didn't know that they found mustard gas! :o

When the bomb went off in Oklahoma City, wasn't that a "homemade" bomb that contained various chemicals that you find at a hardware store or farm supply store?

Lewisite Info

Here's a site I found with info on LEWISITE. Pretty nasty stuff and this is one of the lesser agents that have been mentioned so far!

Here's the link to the Nerve Agents...

Yes, but one can use the same chemical to cook up "crank".

Ammonium nitrate...better living through chemistry. :o
