They have become very much a part of our modern culture. But what would your life be like without it?

Only my wife has a cell phone, and she usually leaves it HERE...

I commute to work everyday and on my way home one evening I broke down on the interstate with NO cell phone. Luckily a HWY patrolman stopped and offered assistance. Before I went to work the next morning I stopped in and purchased a cell phone. I do not drive and talk on the phone anymore either. I was traveling home from a friends house and my friend called my phone. I was in the fast lane at the time and had slowed down. When I looked in my rear view mirror and saw this big ferocious 18-wheeler right on my bumper I threw that phone in the passengers seat and floored it. LOL. I vowed to never talk and drive again.

I use my cell phone just about every time I leave the house and for long distance calls from my house. Besides, it is great to have in case of an emergency.

We have 4 on our plan. Great for emergencies!! Of course, it always helps if someone you are trying to contact has it on, which my wife doesn't very often.

But, I could survive without it. I did for 40 some oee years!!

Cell phones are excellent for emergencies ... glad I had one then when my other car broke down (on top of a bridge of all places) ...

It's also good to have to order a pizza on my way home from work (30 minute drive from my work to home) so the pizza will be ready when I pick it up...*LOL*

Ah yes.....the DREADED cell phone! Driving well over 1000 miles per week in our business it has become like a third hand to us. Our travels take us WAY out in the boonies, so needless to say, it is a necessary evil!

I mainly use it for phone calls from Green Bay to Menasha and beyond. Yes, I do have it with me when I drive, but it comes out in dire need only...roadside emergencies.

you didn't leave an option for those people like me who have a cell phone and could live without it. Me and the hubby both have a cell phone. I could live without the bill. I hardly use the thing anyway...just keep it around in case of emergency.

I keep it in the car only for emergencies. We got one of those pre-paid ones! So NO bill. If we cant afford to buy the minutes, we dont use it.

That is what I have Bronnie! I have mastered the art of cellphone driving! I can dial, talk, adjust volume, all of that without looking away from the road! But go figure last week when my car blew out a tire, I was out of minutes and couldn't call anyone!

hmmm..you must have different teenagers than I have! If theuy don't want to be found, trust me, they will always come up with an excuse for why they didn't answer the phone. Let me guess..your's are not 18 and female?

I have mine for my car only in case of emergencies and maybe to call Marty to see if I need to pick up anything.

I couldn't live without my cell phone. It is a life line! I always have my cell phone with the hands free option in the car so I don't take my eyes off the road, but it does sometimes look as if I am talking to myself!

Hmmmm...wonder what the survey would look like if we asked the question, "Could you live without your CD player?"

Most got cell phones first time around for emergencies...but then before long an emergency consisted of ordering pizza while you backed out of your driveway on the way to pick it up!

Nice mix of answers, though. Thanks!

Curious, too, how many have more than one cell phone in a family?

I don't own a cell phone so I'm a hold out in that dept. I'm resisting getting one b/c I know:

1. I'd never talk on one while driving. Hate when people do that and then not pay attention to the center line, speed limit, street signs (whoops, was that a stop sign?), etc.

2. I'd never talk on one while grocery shopping - check the pantry honey, are we out of ketchup? Another time I don't care for cell phones - shoppers standing in the middle of the aisle with their cart planted in the middle of the aisle just gabbing away....oh, you want to get by?

3. See - when people have cell phones in their hands they *sometimes* forget where they are and what they should be doing! I'm not good at multi-tasking either.....

Now I don't want to upset any of you that can't live w/o them, it's just that I find they're mostly annoying, not helpful. If I traveled long distances, then I guess I'd have a different opinion. Just tooling around in my township, carting kids around, I just don't want or need one.
