Soldier charged in grenade attack

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky., April 4 — A soldier from the Army’s 101st Airborne Division has been charged with two counts of murder in a grenade attack on officers’ tents in Kuwait, it was announced Friday.
FORT CAMPBELL officials said Sgt. Hasan K. Akbar, 32, was charged under military law on March 25 with two counts of premeditated murder and 17 counts of attempted murder.Akbar, who also was charged with one count of aggravated arson of an inhabited dwelling and misbehavior as a sentinel, could face the death penalty if convicted of the most serious charges against him, according to Dennis Olgin, a retired judge advocate general’s corps officer who served 20 years with the Army
