BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 4 — Iraq’s state-run television on Friday provided the strongest evidence yet that Saddam Hussein survived a U.S. missile attack at the outset of the war, broadcasting a speech in which a man who appeared to be the Iraqi president referred to a downed U.S. helicopter and airing footage showing him touring what was described as a neighborhood in Baghdad to cheers from frenzied residents.

I saw the video of "saddam" walking around. I think its a double. "Saddam seemed to be wandering around aimlessly and he wasn't saying anything inspirational to the "crowd." What little talking he did seemed to be halfhearted and just replies to individuals. You'd think that the real saddam would be trying to get everyone fired up. He was acting like he was just going along with it, almost amused by the ruse or else by the attention. The crowd appeared to be no more than 100 people, if that and there was a minimal entourage. Some of the people in the "crowd were watching the camera instead of Saddam, as if they were checking to see if they should stop yet.

I didn't see the speech video.
