With probably Saddam dead,the communications between them very degraded,the republican guards weakening, more and more uprisings against the regime as time goes by so I dont know about what all here think but I see this war ending more sooner than many are saying in the media and we can't also discount the possibilitie that someone in the regime or what is left of it may say WE SURRENDER and that is it.

But I know that in Baghdad there will be fighting from what is left of the regime and they may use WMD but even that looks more and more positive for the coalition because the forces of Saddam are not united and are disbanding as they haved been getting pounded south of Baghdad.

Do all here think the same as I am or you see it in a distint manner?

I think they figure they have nothing to lose due to the fact we found banned missiles. I hope the don't use wmd but feel it is a real threat. I also believe Saddam is dead due to the fact his family and top officials are reported to have tried to leave Baghdad. If he was alive they wouldn't have done that due to the fear of his reprecussions and anger?? JMHO

I hope you're right Luis, but only a few days ago we were talking about the war going longer than expected. Anything can happen - just look at yesterday! Fortunately, it was alot of good news this time around instead of bad and more obstacles. It did seem to help to turn up the hope levels abit more though!

I am very hopeful that the war will end sometime this month.

We still have a lot of work to do for sure. Unless the Special Republican Guard just folds which I doubt. Taking a city of 5 million people house by house is no easy task. While the recent news is great let's be prepared for this to extend for several weeks at least.

Yep Marshall weeks not months the war phase but of course then comes the reconstruction phase that could take years.

Only thing is those banned missles they would argue (along with the ******* French), were in the process of being destroyed. If we had only given them a few more months.......

the 13th day of the ground campaign, coalition forces are about 30 miles outside Baghdad, Maj. Gen. Stanley McChrystal said during Wednesday's Pentagon briefing. The Medina and Baghdad divisions of the Republican Guard, he said, are no longer "credible forces."

At the same time, McChrystal, vice director for operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Pentagon spokeswoman Victoria Clarke stressed that the most difficult battles may yet unfold.

"As much as we are making good progress -- and we are -- the toughest fighting could lie ahead," Clarke said. "The likelihood that they might use chemical weapons is in front of us now. We are not underestimating how tough it could be going forward."

I think the threat of Chemical war is very real and what will surely slow this effort to a crawl. If we get hit before we take them out, then what? Massive bombings forsaken embedded innocent Iraqi's?

Tough decisions ahead, but I vote for a massive retaliation if we are hit chemically. We will have, to that point, done everything in our power to preserve civilian life.

I agree 100% j. We have to put the well being of the coalition forces first in that situation..If it ever goes down. :o Hope it doesn't..

Believe me, if they use chemical weapons, we may have some surprises of our own. But yes, the going will get tough. How quickly we can get in may make a difference. We have special forces on the inside. Hopefully we'll get the tip as to when then try to unleash WMD. When the going gets tough, the tough get going! On to Baghdad, and take down the flag!

True rainstorm but we do have roving special ops forces all over the western area. A group from Syria has a lot of territory to cross with no cover to hise their movement. IMO there's not a chance in hell of moving any sizeable force from Syria without it getting decimated long before it could reach Bagdad.

I believe chemical weapons will be used as soon as we enter Baghdad. They have done this in the past, no reason to not believe they wouldn't do it this time. But we do not know who is running the show anymore. I do not believe it is Saddam. I believe it is Chemical Ali.


rainstorm.... we are all over the Syria/Iraqi border. If they get in it will be in a pine box.

The last report on "Chemical Ali" had him in charge of the Southern Defense zone in Basra. Asziz and the other cronnies are most likely running the show in Bagdad. I'll help build the pine boxes
