Yes I'm laughing because in a way this story is funny and makes me wonder if the Kissimmee police dept. was having a slow day.

On the way home today.. I stopped at Albertsons and picked up a small load of groceries.. {about 3-4 bags but they were heavy}.

Because of my lack of muscle power lol and because it was nearly 100 degrees.. I figured I'd push a shopping cart home and leave it outside my complex like I always do..

Well.. about 1/4 of a mile from home.. I was passing 1 of my neighboring apt. complexes and sitting there in his patrol car was a Kissimmee police officer..

I kindly waved and went on my way.. Well.. not even 10 seconds later.. the officer gets out of his car and says "Excuse me sir.. come here a sec.." and proceeds to tell me that taking a shopping cart from a grocery store is a 2ND DEGREE MISDEMEANOR.

After a kind exchange.. I simply explained to him that it was too hot for me to carry the groceries and that I would return the cart right back. I even told him that I've done it on more than 1 occasion. All he kindly said was "I just wanted you to know the consequences.. but since you seem harmless and because the stores haven't complained.. you may go.. Just remember to take the cart back"

That basically is what happened lol

All those citizens out there, crying for protection, and this "badge" stops you on a Class II misdemeanor?

You were right...he had nothing better to do. BTW, how far is it from where you were detained to the local donut shop? (Used to be a cop...I "remember".)

That is a little rediculous although some teenagers around here steal carts and ride in them down the streets... so maybe that is why he was stopping you.

Did you return the cart?

Actually, it's not all that funny since stores lose a lot of money from stolen and missing carts. Those carts are expensive so if a store is losing a lot of carts they mightask the Police to keep an eye out.

They actually are putting magnetic loops under the pavement in the parking lots around here to stop the carts at the edge of the lot.

Nowadays at my local Kroger stores, they have a special wheel installed on every cart that automatically stops once a cart leaves their parking lots. I've seen several people from a runned-down apartment complex try to pull it away from the stores to roll groceries to their homes. I hope the other stores install that wheel.

That is what I was talking about above. Forgot to mention they put a special wheel with a strong magnet in it.
