AILING: Star Trek vet James Doohan (aka Scotty) is reportedly battling Alzheimer's disease. Doohan's wife, Wende, broke the news in Britain's Daily Record newspaper. "It is hard for him to do interviews because the more he starts searching for the words, the more frustrated he gets," she said. "With Jimmy, it's mostly the loss of words. He still recognizes everybody. And there are times when he is sharp as a tack." The 84-year-old actor — who also suffers from Parkinson's disease and diabetes — is slated to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame later this month.

The poor man! Not only is he fighting Alzheimer's but also Parkinson's and is diabetic on top of all that. Doesn't seem fair does it? Just thought I'd post this info since we may have Star Trek fans at Storm2K. I'm not a Trekkie but I've watched my fair share of the ST original episodes.

When I think of his character I think of these words:

"Beam me up Scotty!".

That is sad news!!! Who's gonna beam us up now?

I used to watch Star Trek religiously when I was in college. A whole group of us watched together every evening before we went to the cafeteria to eat.

That is sad news indeed :( He was also my favourite Star Trek character, and I still watch those `crappy` 60s Star Trek episodes, even though I`ve seen them a million times over!
