Aziz on TV staing that Iraq has no WMD and it was a US fabricated lie to overthrow Saddam's regime! Are they quickly destroying any evidence?? OR are they leading us into their lair. hhhmmm. Either way could be very bad for the US. They are masters at propaganda and Aziz, as I've said before, is one of the best at what he does.

Then what do they have to say about Saddam's statement that he'll use chemical weapons on our troops when they cross that line?

WAIT!!

I don't think Saddam said they'd use those weapons if we cross into that "red zone." I believe we said that, someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. What was the source that said he would use chemical weapons if we crossed a threshold?? :o

I heard that intelligence knows of red zone - they heard that once the Coalition forces cross it - WMD will be used - which is around Baghdad.

TV: Iraq May Use Chemical Weapons on US in Baghdad

Reuters
Monday, March 24, 2003; 7:47 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. officials say the Iraqi leadership has drawn "a red line" around the map of Baghdad and once American troops cross it Iraqi Republican Guards have been authorized to use chemical weapons, U.S. television networks reported on Monday.

The reports, by CNN, NBC and CBS's National Security correspondent David Martin, did not name the U.S. officials or give any further details.

NBC said its information was coming from intelligence officials who based it on intercepts of Iraqi communications.

"It's believed once U.S. ground troops cross the line drawn roughly between Karbala and Al Kut, the Republican Guards are under orders to attack with chemical weapons," NBC said.

CNN said the fact that the use of the weapons had apparently been authorized did not mean they would ultimately be used.

A senior Pentagon source told Reuters he could not confirm the reports.

The United States and Britain invaded Iraq last week to overthrow President Saddam Hussein and get rid of any weapons of mass destruction Iraq might have.

U.S. war commander General Tommy Franks said at a news conference in central command in Qatar earlier that his forces had not found weapons of mass destruction, but that it was "a bit early" to expect them to.

American and British forces hit Iraqi Republican Guards defending the approaches to Baghdad on the fifth day of the war.

The Pentagon said U.S. forces had advanced more than 200 miles into Iraqi territory and were beginning to confront an elite division of the Republican Guards deployed to defend the capital.

Thanks for the source southerngale. Looks like an intercepted message. I still find it strange that the Iraqis mined the Bridge across the Euphrates (sp) but had no rigging. Doesn't make sense. BTW, Anyone see MacCaffery make his briefing...very candid..busting on Iraqs leadership. probably the last time they let him in front of the camera. LOL.

I think the Iraq's thought that the military would be stopped by the sandstorm - we showed them. Also - IMO this shows a weakness in the military rule.

What do you think?

Maybe

Either that or they're letting them role through and up to something else......Nah! They're not that good.

personally i chalk sadaams threat to use chemical weapons right up there with his promise of "the mother of all battles" in the first gulf war.

basically i believe it is just talk and rhetoric to try and scare our troops and lower morale with the threat alone. hope the threat alone will stop the US/Uk forces from advancing on baghdad.

I know our field commanders don't agree with you David. Every interview I've seen they have talked like they think it's more than likely that Saddam will order the use of his chemical arsenal. The bigger question is will the Army follow through on the orders..

snip <What do you suggest they do?>

i think you may have misunderstood me. i meant that sadaam is hoping the mere threat of chemical weapons usage will halt the US/UK.

and as far as the "chatter" on the use of chemical weapons goes. I believe that the Iraqi regime knows we listen in on their conversations and thus could very well be false information.

Thanks for clearing that up David. And I hope you're right about the chatter being false information.

but to think that we are fifty miles from baghdad and we still haven't found any...still only speculation.

NAW!!! You're kidding me Ticka!! They don't have Chems or WMD's! Remember?? I must have just been a storage place from the last war. That's why they found a tank and hundreds of discarded uniforms in the hospital.

:grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: NOT!!!!!! :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:

BTW, it wasn't just any hospital, it was the one our troops were ambushed from yesterday!!
