Fact - Houston streets flood -- a lot!

Recently, the news has reported that the Houston Wham-Bam Tram guys want to change the light-rail system into a subway system to avoid all these accidents.

Particularly for you Houstonians (but anyone can jump in), what's your take on turning it into a subway?

IMO -- it would be too expensive, it would cause too many delays while they dig up the streets to install it, and it wouldn't work in the end because of street flooding. I think they're nuts to even consider it! They'd be better off fixing the signs and signals so drivers wouldn't be so confused about which lane to be in or when a train is coming up behind them on the street.

These people are going from STUPID TO STUPIDER IMO. In most places the water table in Houston is no deeper than about 20-25 feet, at least in areas where a subway would be built. Can you say major costs just to keep the excavations dry, much less, major costs to engineer and build it so it wouldn't leak constantly and/or literally float out of the ground.

The only smart solution to the troubles with the rail system in Houston is to elevate it AND GET THE FREAKING POLITICS OUT OF IT!!! I could go on and on about this but I won't. Simple fact of the matter is subways WILL NOT WORK IN HOUSTON!!!
