Jen - the second I saw your topic I thought - oh I hope she got in nursing school - I was crossing fingers/toes just clicking here! And now you start in August - that's just great! You'd better rest up, my sister-in-law is a nurse and says she worked her tail off. I think I've shared this with you, she only has her nursing degree not a bachelor's in nursing. She wishes now she had stayed in to get her 4 year degree. I know you're busy, with family constraints but just consider it when you're thru. If she had her 4 year degree she could go into management/administration and make a lot more money. And she's only 30!
Sooooo happy for you!!! You need to celebrate tonight.

Thanks so much everyone. I have been working towards this for 2 years now. I just can't wait to get started. Duck, not sure what area I want to get into. I figure once I start my clinicals and get my feet wet, I'll be able to decide. I would love to work in the nursery, but I'm sure everyone wants to be there, lol. Miss Mary, I am going for my bachelors, I've already started the general education courses for it. My long term goal is to get my masters, but that's a ways off for now. Thanks again everyone! I will be celebrating tonight.

Jen - glad to hear that! Get that Master's too!!! In fact, not only were my sister-in-law's superiors pushing for her to take evening classes to get her Bachelor's, they were suggesting she go further and get her Master's. Theoretically then she'd really be set. She could go into Administration and not have to work the floors again. She's taken a few classes towards her B. but she isn't very far with that. I've shared her situation with you (young daughter, disabled husband). This is the one that annoys me sometimes, but I try so hard to be patient with her too. She also fractured her foot a month ago and working the floor, 12 hours on, 12 off, 2 days a week, has been really hard on her. So think about all of this and when you're much older, you just might be glad to trade that floor shift for some nursing desk work!

Obviously, it will be your decision. But it's been my experience that the ER staff has the absolute best darn sense of teamwork. And, no, I'm not biased. I worked in the clinics, ICU's, and on the regular units also when I did phlebotomy.
My second fave is the NICU -- especially the nurses in St. Louis' Barnes Hospital neonatal unit.
