WASHINGTON -- Government officials say terror warnings will soon be added to an expanded weather radio network. The coordinated effort will allow the network to broadcast all emergency warnings on a regional level. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will join forces with the Homeland Security Department.

Terror alerts will now be issued automatically, in the same way warnings are now sent out about inclement weather and missing children. The system encodes messages to a specific area where a threat occurs. It reaches 97 percent of the nation and is assisted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
