Anyone else?

#1 Postby azsnowman » Fri Jun 11, 2004 7:38 pm

I KNOW I'm gonna get BLASTED for this BUT.... Is anyone else other than myself getting *kinda tired* of hearing/seeing ALL the coverage of Ronald Reagans funeral? PLEASE don't get me wrong, YES..he was and probably WILL be the last GREAT president of the United States BUT....no pun intended here, they're beating a dead horse here! Yes.....I said my repsects, I couldn't believe he passed on BUT...the man suffered a GREAT Deal, so did Nancy, it's a BLESSING for heavens sake, he's in a FAR better place now, NOT suffering like we are....it should be a JOYOUS occasion, not this LONG, DRAWN OUT misery! I know when I pass on, I DON'T want a funeral, I don't want ANY crying, mourning I mean GEEEEESH! There's something a LOT better out there, we just have to wait awhile for our rewards and by golly, Ronny "IS" receiving his rewards right NOW 8-)

I'm not bothered the least bit for the love and honor shown to our late President and to Nancy and the kids and grandkids. :)

Dennis, you mean you don't truly care for a funeral service for loved ones and friends to "celebrate" your Homegoing?

To me, right now is one of the FEW times in recent memory (since 9/11) that everyone is coming together so I find comfort in that.

Seeing Mikhael Gorbachov and Margaret Thatcher in the Capital Rotunda paying their respects and Mr. Gorbachov touching the coffin, REALLY touched me. In a way, I think that our country needed this in a strange way.

Dennis - it does make me wonder what we'll do when another former president passes on. For example, Clinton! Somehow I just don't think he'll garner as much attention. Instead of touching stories, we'll hear snickers. Okay, trying to be nice here. Back to reality. I just think this is the way our media is now. Post 9/11. Everything seems to be way over the top.

I'm not too upset by it. President Reagan was a very well like president. So I can forgive the media.

I believe he should be honored like what is going on now. I have cried so much this week. This is his final goodbye and I for one am glad to be a part of it and a witness to history in the making.

I for 1 am with Dennis and Yankee Girl.. Yes he was a great president.. and he deserves all the honor.. But I do think all the TV coverage is getting old.. Give Nancy and the Reagan children their own privacy.

{Though I will say I did tear up a tad when I heard Hail to the Chief a few minutes ago}

I sure hope my reply didn't upset anyone. Like Bonnie said, I don't recall the passing of a former president, except for JFK, having this much coverage. I'm not complaining mind you, that's just an observation.

Edit - oops that was YankeeGirl, not Bonnie - sorry.

Good point.. I wasn't taking anything away from anybody :)

It is up to the families. IMO, Nancy did the right thing by allowing us Americans to be a part of it.

Ronald Reagan planned all of this out MANY MANY years ago. He wanted the public to have many opportunities to pay their respects. If the family didn't want all the media attention, they wouldn't have chosen to do all this(see Nixon)

Linda - true. I was just trying to present the flip side to this - Clinton. I just don't think his funeral will be like this - not at all. Reagan was one of a kind.

Linda - good! Just didn't want to give you the wrong impression of my Clinton reference. I can't get past the behavior he exhibited in the oval office! Still, to this very day. So when this time comes for Clinton, I'll just probably sigh. And move on. It's a little different with Reagan.

I have no problem with all the coverage...just that in usual US style, we make and choreograph quite a production out of everything...including this funeral. That part is overplay of a good thing.

I find it a time to reflect on better days passed...and better days ahead!

No way it will be. Although I think Clinton will try and make his bigger(how much bigger can you get?)
