Guess I have to be different here - I just scanned down that list until I saw St. Elsewhere. St. E has my vote for favorite medical drama of all time. To those unfamiliar with it, if you ever see reruns, catch and episode or two. And if you like ER, then I know you'll like St. E! Just for one example, it's where Denzil Washington got his start!

I remembered you mentioning it as a fave. I had to be sure not to forget it. And Howie Mandel and Mark Harmon were on there also!

I'm trying to remember -- was it David Morse's character Boomer who got stuck with a needle that was contaminated with HIV+ blood right after he stuck the patient? I vaguely remember the character getting upset with the patient and then having to worry about whether or not he contracted the virus. That was back in the early days of the disease.

I wish they'd bring back reruns. I watched it, but I just don't remember that much more about it, except for the final episode (which I always try to catch for any series!) when the cartoon cat at the end flatlined. :)

I agree, Mary...that was quite a cast! Denzel Washington, Ed Begley Jr., Bonnie Bartlett, William Daniels, Ed Flanders, Chad Allen, Terence Knox, etc.
Remember that doctor named Peter White (Terence Knox)...those scary parts of episodes where he preyed on some of the female hospital staff?!

It was touching how Dr. Donald Westfall (Ed Flanders) interacted with his autistic son played by (Chad Allen).

Shawn and Eric - a year or so ago, a cable channel ran reruns. And I was able to watch almost all. I was in St. Elsewhere heaven! If you'll recall the theme song is great too! One of those catchy tunes that you still to this day hear in stores, doctor's offices, etc. Since it was a classical piece, like ER's theme song, it's perfect in an office setting. Anyway, I had to hear the theme song start up too, since it set the tone for the whole show (I was much the same way with ER for a long, long time).

I think it was Mark Harmon's character who got stuck with a needle, since he contracted Aids and dies later on. What was disturbing about Morris' character was, I hope I have this correct, when he was raped. Didn't he do community service at a prison and a guard left him alone for a short time? That's all it took for the rape to occur. Poor Boomer - he lost his wife, was raising his son alone and then that happens. I loved Jack! He was my favorite character.

Howie Mandell - OMG, what a riot he was!!! The morgue was one wacky place when he was in charge. And how about that female nurse that everyone liked but went nutso near the end? Because Peter was preying upon her too? I hated Peter! Who didn't?

Remember the head nurse - Christina Pickles (Monica/Ross' mom on Friends) played the part. She was great in that role.

Now I'm missing St. E.!!! There was just something about that show. A classic if you ask me.

Had to look it up....Peter was played by Terence Knox. I just saw him recently in a movie with Heather Locklear and Gerald McRaney, where Knox played a stalker who blew up buildings to get HL's attention. Guess he likes to play weird characters like that.

Wow, I don't remember all that you mentioned, Mary. I swear I remember watching it quite a bit, but I don't remember it as well as Facts Of Life, which was only on during that same time in my life. Maybe I was hitting the sack too early back then for most of the series.

As best I can tell, Shirley shot and killed Peter? She was played by Ellen Bry, a name I don't really recognize.

I recall that Terence Knox also was in charge of a platoon in the Viet Nam TV series "Tour Of Duty."

Here's a site with almost all TV shows listed. Here is St. Elsewhere's page:

http://epguides.com/StElsewhere/

In season 5, one episode (8th one I think) mentions Jack is having a hard time getting over his trauma at the prison. I scanned previous episodes but couldn't find the one where the rape occurs. I remember the man who committed this terrible act was bald. And he would taunt Jack when he came to do his work with prisoners. The whole storyline was creepy.

Did anyone mention Dr. Craig yet? OMG, you just couldn't stand him at all! He rode Erhlich's butt every episode. Poor Ehrlich couldn't do anything correct in his eyes.

Shirley was a likeable character and she just spapped by what Peter did to her. I think he may have attacked her too. Shirley and Fiscus had an on again/off again thing going on too I think.

Terrence Knox sure plays weird characters very well, as you said. Wonder if he wanted his career to go this way?

Dr. Craig, as in Bonnie Bartlett's character, maybe?
