#1 Postby Brent » Sun Jun 06, 2004 2:15 pm

The funeral for Former President Ronald Reagan will be Friday at 11:30am ET at the Washington National Cathedral.

I am going to get the other details shortly. It was just announced. The procession through Washington will be Wednesday Evening.

The site with the info is swamped right now and is loading slowly.

It will be the first time that many Americans will get a chance to see what a National Funeral is and all the pomp and circumstance surrounding one. I remember JFK's and seeing the horse-drawn casket. LBJ died in 1973 but I don't remember his funeral for some reason. Did he have a horse-drawn casket? Richard Nixon did not have a state funeral for obvious reasons.

The family of Nixon decided against that. He had the right to have one, but it's up to each individual family to choose. I don't know if LBJ went through DC on a Horse-Drawn carriage or not.

My apologies, then. I thought I heard on FOX news that Nixon was not allowed a National Funeral because of the terms of him leaving office.

Maybe so... I just heard something different, lol Someone's wrong. :P

But the family can choose not to have all the pomp and circumstance also.

You are correct, Brent. CNN just stated that Nixon's family chose a private service for him rather than a national funeral.

They probably did that BECAUSE of the fact that Nixon resigned.
