If so what kind are you taking? t3 or t4 or t3/t4 combo drug?
And if you have been on a couple of them which one of them made you feel better.

Just curious about this because I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and possible parathyroid cancer and the doctor is putting me on meds for the hypothyroidism and would like to know your opinion on the meds.

I was also hypo and was on synthroid for years due to a follicular adenoma on the left lobe of my thyroid. It was rather large (IMO), i.e. large enough to feel it from the outside. FINALLY found a doc to remove it and surprisingly the other lobe has produced enough to where I don't have to take it anymore. One warning regarding surgery if that's an option for you-swallowing is almost impossible and EXTREMELY painful for the first 24 hours following surgery. They had me on morphine and I needed it. They also were very reluctant to give me any fluids right after surgery but my mom raised hell and got me ice chips and water. If surgery IS an option, be prepared to feel like your head is too heavy for your neck. I DID look like Frankenstein for about a week due to the one LONG stitch they did in BLACK (like they couldn't have picked a different color?)from one side of my neck to the other. My scar is virtually invisible and have had NO problems since. All in all, if you need to get it removed, DO SO.

Synthroid .175

Been on various dosages for about 16 years now. My thyroid doesn't work at all on it's own. Feel fine at the moment, but like a diabetic, the dosage has to be adjusted from time to time. It takes a while to establish the correct dose. Once you are getting the level you need, you feel pretty close to normal again.

Good luck, and don't neglect to have your levels tested yearly, especially the first few years. Then you can catch it BEFORE the awful symptoms manifest.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I am very nervous about what all is happening if surgery is needed etc. :(

I take Armour Thyroid 30MG 2xdaily. It really makes a big difference. Also had to have surgery in March. Enlarged gland in neck. It was benign, but he is checking it again later this month to make sure there is no cancer there. It was not bad at all, probably the placement , mine was just above the collar bone.
