Fewer than half of Americans approve of President Bush's overall job performance, a new ABCNEWS/Washington Post poll finds.

Don't jump my case, I didn't write this---just posting it. :)

47% approval.

2/3rds disapprove of his handling of the prison mess and 58% disapprove of his handling of Iraq. Yuck.

Fewer than half...

This statistic isn't surprising considering all that's going on.

Any other candidate and GW would be already packing his bags. I'm am surprised how low his numbers are dropping though, and he is definitely in for a fight.

the choice is simple. if kerry is elected, then there will never again be a nation with the stomach to fight terrorism.

The problem is... NO President has ever been re-elected with an approval below 50%. If Bush doesn't get it up SOON he's on his way to, sadly, losing. :(

No surprise...it will be interesting to see how he can get out of this hole so late in the game..Kerry is no dreamboat either and opinions can change quickly... :roll:

I agree with you there. Kerry should be ahead by 10 or more points right now, but he's not because he's a flip-flopper and a boring candidate. He puts me to sleep, LOL

It's all about what have you done for me lately. Remember when we first captured Sadaam? Bush could do no wrong, now the insurgents are coming on strong, we are losing alot of kids, and now of course the prison pics. For me personally, I didn't agree with going to war with Iraq in the first place. A country who can't even hit there neighbor accurately with a missle shouldn't strike that much fear into us with the likes of N. Korea out there. BUT Bush came into office under terrible circumstances, the economy was ripe for a crash and the 9/11 attacks occured as soon as he arrived. My biggest beef with Bush is jumping the gun on the war. That being said If another candidate won the nomination I'd probably vote democrat, but when you back me into a corner and make me decide between Kerry and Bush I can't see myself voting for Kerry. Things change but I strongly doubt I will vote for him. As I said at the top a few things go our way over in Iraq Bush will breeze to victory in November.

That is because you stereotype Republicans as being much tougher on defense, but the bottomline is I think a Democrat can handle this effort just as well as Bush, and terrorist attack, would only strengthen my dissapproval of Bush.

That's thing $100,000 question for me - how do we KNOW that a Democrat will not handle this as well? How do we know that they wouldn't have handled 9/11 as well?

How does my statement reflect this?

Ahh sorry if I was harsh, but it seems obvious that you have the view that if we are attacked the Presidents ratings will definitely go up, and this is in respect to his handling of defense. While you are probably right that another terrorist attack would bring it up. It is kind of backwards for such to occur, as another attack could easily be seen as possible failures in the current administration, not as a reason to bolster his job approval.

I did not find your statement harsh CaluWxBill just strange considering my statement. So it is your view that if we are attacked the Presidents ratings will definitely go down. For some reason I remember Bush having the highest approval rating just after the 9/11 attack. I would not correlate an attack to poor defense. We have to be 100% correct in our intel and thwarting of attacks. How long can we run at 100%? The terrorists only have to be lucky once. They are patient. Our borders are wide open. The ports are far from secure. I don't plan on voting Dem or Rep this November but I will not blame Bush when the next attack comes. There is so much going on behind the scenes that at least an attempt will be made to attack us between now and this fall. It's hard to tell whats going on right now but the Mossad seem to be up to something here in CONUS.

no no, just stating that public opinion could go either way.

I hate to sound like I am for the terrorists.. {I most certainly am not}

But.. I think the terrorists WANT Kerry to win. That is why they are planning these attacks supposedly. {Plus having the Olympics and the election doesn't help}

and Osama and all his people are smart enough to know that another attack would not only cripple our country possibly, but completely sway the election Kerry's way {possibly}

If my belief seems a little twisted.. than I apologize

I am not sure I see your point, I think the terrorists would be mistaken. Kerry is not running his candidacy on selling out America to the terrorists. This is just being used by Conservative talk show hosts in order to provide a backlash to what they see as a liberal controlled media.
