I think I have read that gas prices in the late 70's, when adjusted for inflation, are the highest America has seen on record.

Is anybody going to answer the question??

Ok..I will. CLINTON :)

In 1974 my father was gravely ill in a Pittsburgh hospital. I lived in West Virginia. I remember sitting in lines for hours just to get 5 gallons of gas. There were many times that I couldn't see my father before he died due to the fact that I didn't have gas in my car. I would have paid any amount of money to get gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When adjusted for inflation... the gas prices from the late 70s was higher. That was during the infamous shortage.

Can I answer the question? I really want to!

Johnson
Carter
Clinton

NO PARTICULAR ORDER!

Most historians agree that Harding was the worst president in US history.

LOL... I don't really follow Presidents before the WWII. What did Harding do exactly? Or not do?

Well, the Teapot Dome scandal really tainted his administration, but I forgot everything I've learned in History, so I couldn't tell you what exactly it was. lol

I agree the Carter presidency did not go over very well, but he in my mind is one of the greatest persons on Earth. He is so humble, he has a great care for humanity, and understands the problems with the world. Carter being considered one of the worst presidents is just a product of the times and not the person. Then of course Reagan "The Great Communicator" took office and everybody loved him. He certainly did a ton of good for the county (j/k).

Brings things into perspective.

That's one American city folks, about as Deadly as the entire war torn
country of Iraq![/unquote]

Funny how all civilians dead are never mentioned, maybe they do not count.

one in Korea, North Korea Never attacked us. From
1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an Average of 18,333 per year.
John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never
attacked us
. I think history might show Eisenhower committed the troops
and Kennedy was honoring that commitment.
Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.[/unquote]

ehr... cannot remember when Iraq attacked US, anyway the world's consequences of Korea and Vietnam are countless referred to ones of this war.

Now let me ask you a little question:
what would have happened if Nicaragua would have declared war on terror because of this, would you have accepted a nicaraguan invasion? Or there are two kind of terrorism: a good one and an evil one?
A key role in the development of the Contra alliance was played by the United States following Ronald Reagan's assumption of the presidency in January 1981. Accusing the Sandinistas of importing Cuban-style communism and aiding leftist guerrillas in El Salvador, Reagan on November 23 that year signed the top secret National Security Decision Directive 17 (NSDD-17), giving the Central Intelligence Agency the authority to recruit and support the Contras with $19 million in military aid. The effort to support the contras was one component of the so-called Reagan Doctrine, championed by American conservatives, which called for providing U.S. military support to movements opposing Soviet-supported, communist regimes.

In 1984 Nicaragua filed a suit in the World Court against the United States in Nicaragua v. United States, which in 1986 resulted in a guilty verdict against the US, calling on it to "cease and to refrain" from the unlawful use of force against Nicaragua through direct attack by US forces and through training, funding and support of the terrorist forces. The US was "in breach of its obligation under customary international law not to use force against another state" and was ordered to pay reparations (see note 1). The US response to this ruling was to dismiss the juristiction of the court and escalate the war.

After direct military aid was interrupted by the Boland Amendment (passed by the U.S. Congress in December 1982 and extended in October 1984 to forbid action by not only the Defense Department and the Central Intelligence Agency but all U.S. government agencies), Administration officials sought to procure third-party funding of military supplies, culminating in the Iran-Contra Affair of 1986-1987.

Paolo from what I can see you dislike Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Reagan and both Bushes. Now those are just the ones I know of!!!! Sounds like you don't like much about America. That's a pity. We're good people with good values. Unless you are just looking for a fight, I think it would be very depressing for you to interact on these boards.

Speaking of Carter...he's written a great book about the Revolutionary War called "The Hornet's Nest". Also, he is a born-again Believer like is GW Bush.

what criteria you use for defining the worse President. In US History, U.S. Grant and Warren G. Harding are considered to be the biggest exceptions to the rule that one grows into the Presidency as their Administrations were the most corrupt. Limiting it to those Post WWII Presidents, then I have to say that the biggest crooks were Nixon and Johnson hands down.
Johnson was ineffective at running a war and the current Bush is turning out that way. Carter was the most ineffective overall but both Bushes have been incredibly weak on Domestic issues. Clinton was headed towards the trash heap of the Presidency when his Party controlled Congress because the Congressional leaders didn't like him-his Health Care plan failed despite Democratic Control of Congress, NAFTA passed only because of the Congressional Republicans and the list goes on. He learned to work with the Republican Majorities and would have salvaged his legacy except for two things-the most important being his not so legal dealings with China and the far less important being his problem with his zipper. OTOH, US Presidents in the past have been far from paragons of virtue even some of the most revered ones.

That may be a question of verb tense. Now, I'll catch it for sure. I shouldn't, though, because everyone has a right to his/her opinion.

Yes, it's unfortunate that the Iran siege didn't end during Carter's term, too.

worst president?

I beg to differ. Carter was one of the few honest, decent men who has ever been president. He was a genuinely good human being who lived his Christianity. The hostage affair certainly ended at an opportune time. What a coincidence.
