Sorry to hear about this Brother. It is always a sad day when we lose a police officer or a firefighter. Many prayers going out to his family and the law enforcement communities.

That's terrible Dennis! The poor dog. How can someone be so brutal? I'm sure you hugged your dogs tight when you heard the news.

Grab a kleenex folks....just got this in an email from the Salinas PD:

The Rainbow Bridge PoemPolice Dog Home Page Valor
"Guardians Of The Night"

Trust in me my friend for I am your comrade. I will protect you with my last
breath When all others have left you And the loneliness of the night closes
in, I will be at your side.

Together we will conquer all obstacles, And search out those who might wish
harm to others. All I ask of you is compassion, The caring touch of your
hands. It is for you that I will unselfishly give my life And spend my nights
unrested. Although our days together May be marked by the passing of the seasons
Know that each day at your side is my reward.

My days are measured by The coming and going of your footsteps. I anticipate
them at every opening of the door. You are the voice of caring when I am ill.
The voice of authority when I've done wrong.

Do not chastise me unduly For I am your right arm, The sword at your side. I
attempt to do only what you bid of me. I seek only to please you and remain in
your favor.

Together you and I shall experience A bond only others like us will
understand When outsiders see us together Their envy will be measured by their disdain.

I will quietly listen to you And pass no judgment, Nor will your spoken words
be repeated I will remain ever silent, Ever vigilant, ever loyal. And when
our time together is done And you move on in the world Remember me with kind
thoughts and tales, For a time we were unbeatable, Nothing passed among us
undetected.

If we should meet again on another street I will gladly take up your fight, I
am a Police Working Dog and together We are guardians of the night.

And here's another one just in...the officer/friend who is sending me this stuff was Kliefs Trainer, needless to say, he's heart broke to no end.

"Called To Give My All"
I am a deputy in a canine crew.
I've been trained to see it through.
When danger's near my ears perk up,
they taught me that as a little pup.

I'm often there to protect your rights,
my presence sometimes hinders fights.
I never attack with thought to kill,
when subduing one, my job I fill.

I never worry a single thought,
as to how I'll fare at a certain spot.
The love I have for a handler's care,
is all I need, each day to fare.
And if some day my luck turns bad,
I'll relish all the joys I've had.

To be with men who stand for
good, in a special kind of brotherhood.
The story's end by now you know,
of how I tried for a better show.

I did my best, though I did fall,
when I was called and gave my all.

Alright - UNCLE!!!

That's the one thing about animals in general - they are SO LOYAL, unconditionally. They trust you 1000%. That's what hurts the most!

"LOL @ Stephanie!" I'm sorry! BTW....out west here, we say "Calf Rope" instead of UNCLE 8-)

I know......if we humans only had 1/4 of the faithfullness, the patience, the unconditional love that our furry friends give, what a WONDERFUL world this would BE!

It's SO great, no matter how long we're gone, 10 minutes, 10 hours, 1 day, it's the same thing......the girls act like they haven't seen us in OVER a month!

Dennis - isn't that the truth! If I just take out the garbage, I'm greeted with the huge tail thump. Dogs are great. I used to be such a cat lover, still am, but now I'm also a huge dog lover. Can't imagine my life without our sweet Golden. They sure are man's best friend. She's mine, without a doubt.

Indeed, they ARE mans best friend..but there's a *special bond* between an officer and his K9 partner. Michelle and I have just recently obtained permission from our watch Captian to take Macy along with us when we're on traffic duty, Macy wouldn't hurt a FLY but she's big enough and LOUD enough that she scares the living DAYLIGHTS outta people!

Here's an email I just got from our friend:

I won't go on and on, but my partner, "Tiger", and I
attended "Klief's" services today. It was a service that was very
well executed and extremely moving and appropriate for any
officer. "Klief's" handler was beside himself over the number of
other K9 officers that were present with their partners, and could
not express his gratitude enough. The rest of us could not express
enough our shared sorrow at his loss. Our K9 communtiy is a tight
one, and the fact that I recognized several faces among those
present from hundreds of miles around showed that our bonds can not
be broken by violent suspects; only tested and have the strength of
the bond between handler and K9, and like souls shown to be stronger
than ever.
