Virginia Beach Fire Department Makes Dream Come True

AWESOME STORY!!!!

(Virginia Beach, VA, May 21st, 2004, 2:30 p.m.) The Virginia Beach Fire Department along with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia will grant eleven-year-old Shawn T. Strickland of Virginia Beach his wish to become a firefighter.

During the event Shawn will be sworn in as an honorary firefighter and presented his badge and a certificate of his firefighter status by Deputy Chief Melvin Mathias. He will also be given his own uniform, boots, helmet and turnout gear. In addition, he will be presented a proclamation by the Honorable Mayor Meyera E. Oberndorf.

Employees of the Virginia Beach Fire Department have donated some of these items, with Fire Gear a Bacou-Dalloz Company of Grand Junction, Colorado providing his turn out gear and Guardian Fire and Safety of Richmond, Virginia providing his uniform and helmet. As an added treat Make-A-Wish will have a pizza party for Shawn at the fire station in celebration of his birthday.
