Why I post at other message boards...

Hi! I saw Shawn mentioning this in the thread Helen started (please don't go Helen... you are a cool lady!) about the need to post at other message boards.
I post at several message boards for a variety of reasons. Number one -- most message boards have some different people on them and I grow attached to each one. I also have other interests besides weather that I discuss at other message boards because they would get NO replies here and would senselessly clutter up this board... ie: Topics on Days of Our Lives and Reviews of new country music singles.
I hope that no one thinks ill of those of us who post at several message boards because I enjoy each one in a different way. I wouldn't want anyone to force me to choose one of them because I don't know which one it would be.

I don't think Shawn thinks ill of me... far from that!!
Storm2K is an excellent site and I just wanted those who felt that way to know why I post at varied sites.

No, no, Garrett sweetie...I said other "weather" boards....with the same people.
Dude, I'm all over the place on Yahoo groups, reading stuff from Third Watch to ER to screenwriting to trivia to Galveston.

Mostly just reading though. S2K has become my "main" board for OT stuff and my online "family." Other boards have OT, but I don't go there. I just lurk and research them for information on the specific subject for which they exist.

I know you do. I have heard you mention it.

I also post at other weather boards, but they usually have other members that aren't here (like Jeffrey Miller @ J Squared) (several members at the StormTrack forum). I was just clarifying that I had a reason for being at those other sites.

Garrett - I think what Shawn meant, I hope I'm on target here, is that some people post repetivive posts, on many wx related boards. What you're describing, we all do. I even post occasionally on a Knots Landing board! Honest!!! A group of us became close, over at the Soapnet boards, but the KL board there has been sabatoged continously by one troll. So one friend got so fed up, she started her own KL board. It was active for a while there but now it's not so busy. I almost forget to check there for posts each month sometimes! But at one time, I was posting with that group a lot. We have two excellent local music boards in Cincinnati. I've posted a handful of times there, but mostly lurk. I imagine there's a message board out there for just about every topic under the sun. I think what Shawn really meant were all the various wx boards.

Yup, that's what I meant.
And besides, there are tons of weather boards and most people here are weather buffs, so of course, they're not going to stick to just one board. That would horribly limit their education and discussion.
The basis for my question concerned the duplicate posts, debates, and regurgitated arguments, particularly in the OT sections.
Sorry if I wasn't clear.

My one and only board is S2K. I do peek at one in particular, but rarely post. My loyalty is here.

I post at more boards than I count... weather, political boards, aviation mostly.

I visit other boards, but post mainly here. It's clear that this is an example of a board that tries to stay true to its course, but there are other good ones too.
I'm a long-term type of guy. I told my boss when he hired me..."If you want me to come in, make big changes right away, and clean up the house, you got the wrong guy. But if you give me 3-5 years to look over how things are done, change the course of the whole ship if needed, and build relationships between employees and clients...I'm your man!" He must have wanted "b".
Much the same here. Long term relationships and the course of jet streams are important. Little victories are not.
Hard to find other boards were I can help be a bridge-builder. Names and faces change too often.

I post occasionally at the board at velonews.com, which a bicycle board. I go there for technical issues, but there's no off topic and no sense of community. Here, we're family, warts and all.
Here's an interesting question: For those of us that do post elsewhere, do you use the same screen name?
I do.

Nope, I use my Yahoo screen name, which I've had for the past few years, since most of them are all Yahoo boards.
My GD screen name was created when I first posted at GoPBI during a particularly rainy day (just a little bit pre-Allison), when I decided it was weather that only a duck would love.

I have become accustomed to frequenting message boards dealing with the weather.
The off topic forums on these boards make it more interesting to discuss a variety of issues with others interested in meteorology. Obviously, the more activity one board has over the other, the more time can easily spend and see what is being added.

here i consider everyone to be friends so even if we disagree, its in a good way. other boards, such as the ex-wwbb were more confrontational, and they have there place as well. the sad thing is, with the end of angel,
what will happen with the buffy boards?

Let's see, screen names...
I'm Miss Mary at TWC.
I'm MissMary21938 on WebMD colon cancer board.
I'm DallasKLfan on the Soapnet boards - now you all be nice!!! LOL I was the same name at other KL/Dallas boards, but my account seems to have been deleted. I'm also the same name at the private KL board I mentioned.
Finally, I'm Artichoke at the American Cancer Society colon board, since nothing Mary related would take. Artichoke is part of my email addy.....long story, I know. Yes it's one of my favorite veggies but the real reason I chose artichoke for my email addy is b/c it's my very favorite song by a local band, who ummmm, should have been famous......in another lifetime they would have been!
So to sum it up, if you ever see Miss Mary, DallasKLfan, Artichoke, chances are it's me!
Mary
PS - forgot a few, I'm Artichoke on the local music boards. And also on an artist's board that probably none of you have ever heard of - guitarist Adrian Belew. His Yahoo group is called The Tribe. But I haven't posted there in eons.

I'm Pburg or Pburghome. I post at the (sorry) TWC Green thumb and also occasionally drop in at the Front Porch and Potbelly stove over there. I've developed some good gardening friends who haven't decided to make the switch to Storm2k. My online family is here. I don't even lurk anywhere else!!!!

As I said in the Who are you? thread-WYSIWYG with me. I do not change my nick unless it is somehow forced(which is usually by my own stupidity

). However, I VERY SELDOM IF EVER, post anywhere else as I have plenty of FRIENDS and responsibilities to deal with at STORM2K!!!

I post at several different boards as well. I like them all, really, because each one is unique and has its own "flavor", if you will. Not to mention that it's easier to expand your knowledge by conversing with more people. I just steer well clear of the "board war" garbage.
