while I get up on my soapbox for a minute. This isn't probably the most appropriate place to post this topic (you'll see why in a minute), but I wanted to talk about post totals.
May I be so blunt as to say that this used to be a lot of fun. Watching as we climbed up the posting totem pole towards numbers that we never thought we would see here at Storm2K. However, over the last few weeks this post total issue has become so engrossing to some/one/few (you take your pick on that one) that some posts are becoming meaningless.
I used to disagree with Lyle (and this may be a first) but now I tend to agree with him that maybe the fun and games forum posts should not count towards posting totals. I know that this may not be statistically possible, but it seems that some are posting just for the sake of posting. Saying "Great Guess!" to every hangman letter guess is not necessary, making up towns/foods, etc.
I am not saying that some replies that are short aren't worthwhile. Posting LOL! after a funny picture by Chad (for example) is meaningful because you are displaying your approval or feelings about that picture.
I guess I should get to my point... and it is a plea to some. Is it that big of a deal to be the top poster?? Some of the best posters on this board are the ones with only a thousand posts or so. You know when they post that something important is forthcoming. I am not saying that having a lot of posts are bad. I think Joshua, Luis, and I also like to think that I, have added some meaningful discussion to this board as well.
Wrapping up... don't become so consumed in your post count that you have no quality to your post.
Sorry this is sooooo long!
**steps down from the soapbox**
Have a great day!!!

Fair to bring it up Garret.. Some take the post count WAY to serious.. Not just one on the board.. There are a few. I would MUCH rather the short posts to be made in the Games forum rather then in the other forums. The games forum for the most part is used by those that wish to get there posts count up.

as you said its not the total amount of posts that makes a good poster, and most everyone here tends to know that. As far as turning off post count in the games forum.. Not sure we can get it done, and not sure we need to. We will monitor the situation as it has been brought up. But everyone needs to relize that post count dosent mean anything. NOTHING ZILCH NADA.. Dosent matter if you have 100 posts or 10,000 posts. Maybe this thread will help us all we need. And those that are taking the post count so seriously will see that its not so important. If there are any specific posts or problems you would like me to take a look at please PM me. I am more then willing to talk to you about them. Lets just try to not "call anyone out" here publicly in this thread..
But again a legit concern and thanks for bringing it up
Chad

Agree 100% with Garrett on this as Quality is the main purpose of posting not quantity.I post in the fun and games but not in an excessive manner to boost my post count. My only purpose being in storm2k is to contribute with threads that are important for the members to know about in the weather area especially tropical weather and of course in the rest of the forums such as off-topic where I post about themes of importance.I dont care a bit how many posts I have and If I am in the #1 spot or #20 as quality is my big asset and I dont care about quantity.

As I understand it, I'm somewhere in the "over 4,000" range, while my son, coppertop, has yet to break 100 posts.
HOW MANY posts I have to my credit is immaterial; WHAT I SAY in those posts is, hopefully, informed, enlightening and salient to the subject of the moment. Ditto with coppertop's rare, but meaningful offerings.
Anyone can rack 'em up, and many have; but the SUBSTANCE therein may be lacking, and that's my $6.79 worth.

Well Garrett and Luis..... I agree that your post counts have added to the quality of S2K. You both know that and we all love reading your posts. IMO, that is all that matters.

Good point, Garrett! I remain somewhere
"in the middle", with only a few posts here
and there that folks may understand...
Really, having FUN posting is most important!

I think it may be misleading to new members. They might be reading the tropical forum and see a post that a storm is going straight for them. Now they might not know if it is or is not headed for them. All they see is that the poster has a Cat 1 or Cat 3 rank and the person must know what they are talking about. It's not like there are no people I disagree with on the board.

Great post!
OK, I better say more than that, right?
Chad posts funny stuff?
(JK Chad)
I for one, do not have time to post like that. I rarely go into the games forum because I know that I'd get hooked on it and have 20,000 posts too. Then the laundry and dishes wouldn't get done and my wife would leave me.
OK, I'm headin over to the games forum.

LOL.. As much as I'd like to have over 10,000 and be up there with the big shots..
I also know that quantity is not that important and I'll be at 10K eventually..
I also know my count will go up when the Hurricane Season starts again and I'll be posting my tropical opinions..

Ed, it is addicting. However, I still find time somehow to get the laundry and dishes done. I don't have to worry about the wife leavin' though.

I do as well, however they do slack at times and I do get in trouble for it.

Like I said, I will be slowing down to compensate for the job that I just started yesterday.

Hahah you crack me up coriolis! But yes i agree with you Garrett. I must admit i remember when you and I would do the same back in the day to see who would be the first person to get to 2000 posts. But this is ridiculous! I've never seen so many posts on any other message board in my life!

Garrett, maybe you can PM Chad more details. I think it at least merits communicating with him what has been going on with
one or more posters

and there may be a solution that we can all be happy with.

I don't even bother with the games section b/c I think I'll give an answer that was already posted 2,477 pages back......LOL I know, that's an exaggeration but it does seem confusing and way too busy for me over there. Maybe if I had jumped aboard in the beginning I'd contribute.
I don't care if someone has 10,000 or 900 posts, it's what they post/say that matters to me.
Well, that's not exactly true. If I see a member with just 4 or 5 posts, I want to tell them I wish they'd post more, they're missing out on a great message board.

Good post Mary. And good advice for newbies/those that don't post as much

post totals only count on the tv station forum. there the life expectancy of a top poster significantly diminishes after 500. by then, most have written something to get themselves kicked off. posters that exist over there to write 1000 messages or more would make for excellent politicans or spin doctors.
