Police Find Father Who Reportedly Locked Son In Trailer
6-Year-Old Allegedly Locked In Trailer As Punishment
DALLAS, Texas (KXAS TV) -- Dallas police have located the father of a 6-year-old boy who allegedly locked the boy in a trailer on a hot day to punish him.
Investigators said the boy was locked in a trailer at the family home along Los Angeles Boulevard in southwest Dallas. Child protective agents took custody of the 6-year-old and his younger brother Tuesday night. According to Child Protective Services, this is not the first time the family has been investigated.
Neighbors said they heard the 6-year-old crying, screaming and beating the walls inside the trailer, where he allegedly was left for hours with only small holes to provide air.
Someone from the house next door cut off the padlock and called police. According to authorities, the child had no food or water and feces and urine were scattered throughout the trailer.
Neighbors said they've never noticed anything out of the ordinary at the house, but the young victim told investigators his father picked him up from school at lunch Monday and locked him in the trailer to punish him.
According to police, the boy said his father has put him in the trailer numerous times before and uses it to discipline.
The boy's father, Calvin Lavender, has an attorney and talked to police Wednesday afternoon. He could be charged with child endangerment.
