As all know NK and the US are at odds about the nuclear program that Nk has and the US wants Kim Jon Ill to get rid of them but at this time should the US go and help them with medical assistance,food,clothes? I think that tensions about the nukes has to be secondary at this time and go in and try to help them deal with this tragic event of last week. I say the word try because NK may not want US assistance but let's give it a try.

I'm not one to deny humanitarian aid if it is needed AND REQUESTED. If it has been requested and specifically of our government or agencies in the US that can help I say yes.

However, the last count of the dead that I saw was 139 with close to 2000 injured. Definitely a major tragedy, but not the thousands of deaths originally feared and not as overwhelming as originally thought. Now don't flame me for sounding uncaring because I am not that way. I just want to be sure all is in perspective before we go running in and giving aid. Of course, if someone finds information that is verifiable of the original thousands of deaths I will stand corrected.

I think we should help them. After all they are being ruled by a corrupt dictator. You cannot punish the people for their leader...especially if they didn't put him into that position. Although the crash isn't half as bad as first thought...i don't see why we couldn't help them unless Kim Jong-il says otherwise. I don't know what kind of help i'd give...maybe money? Maybe army folk? But I think we're stretched thin no matter what Bush says.

Yes, I would...I think it would send a message to the NK agency/government that we care for other people...just my thoughts so, and I'm sure I don't understand 99% of it...it's probably MUCH more complicated than that.

I "kind of" agree with your last statement Helen. I would hope that something positive would come out of helping NK. I think it's the humane thing to do and I can't imagine how it wouldn't be looked upon postively.

We did offer to help and NK declined. There are other countries that offered help and were refused. They accepted help from China but would only accept it at the border. Just goes to show you that dictatorship needs to go and he could careless about the suffering of his own people.

Did Jesus only help people that others liked? Seems like he helped prostitutes, tax collectors, etc. I remember something about a good Samaritan, too.......

I'm not comparing a nation to Jesus. I'm simply saying that people who call ourselves Christians are supposed to follow Jesus' example in all things, including helping those who need help.

Yes.....but in out National interest, only do it conditionally, and the conditions are obvious.
