Drastic measure to be taken to relieve overcrowding...

Some call it drastic but others call it common sense..

The Osceola County School Board is meeting next week to potentially approve a plan that would completely shake up schedules across the county. Especially at the local HS's.

Osceola County SuperIntendent Blaine Muse is toying with the idea of double sessions. This is where students will go to school at different times of day. 1/2 the school would go from 7:00am-Noon on the 1 plan, while the other 1/2 would go from Noon-5 on the other.

This measure may be taken because back on March 9th.. Osceola County voters REJECTED a 1/2 cent tax hike, that would have been used for school remodelings, expansion projects, and removal of portable classrooms.

This story will I'm sure be talked about for the next few months and years

Me personally.. I am not a K-12 student or a parent, but I am against double sessions. Because I would not want my kids schedule to be completely fouled up. Suppose the kid works afternoons.

Plus.. the counties with major overcrowding issues should continue to find ways to get money. My old HS can easily fit another couple 100 if they undergo an expansion project. They have plenty of land to build on..

If you have an opinion.. Feel free to voice it

I managed to graduate high school before that, but they did begin dual sessions the next year. 6am-to 12.30, then 1-6:30pm...but at that time, the "baby boom" was in its full flower, and it WAS necessary.

(FYI, my graduating class was about 1,300, out of a high school population of 5,200.)
