NEW ORLEANS -- A workboat crew on Wednesday found a bomb floating in Lake Pontchartrain a couple of miles from the Causeway. Police said the bomb consisted of explosive material secured in plastic pipes with what appeared to be a timer attached. The bomb was wrapped in trash bags to keep it afloat.
A tugboat operator spotted the bags floating in the lake at about 7 a.m. and called the U.S. Coast Guard because he said it appeared dangerous, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato.
