Somebody's gotta rent it...

My youngest son has been living with his brother and wife (and my granddaughter Emma) since December.

He's been pretty committed to getting out of their place by summer, and so he's been looking at a variety of options including buying a condo, renting a place with a friend, or renting a room somewhere closer to work.

California housing costs are brutal. He's learned that. So have any of you from California. Unreal by most standards.

By chance his 22-year old cousin (a student at San Diego State University) mentioned that those living off campus in their place were looking for another roommate to replace one who graduates in May.

He went to visit the place today partly out of politeness to the invitation, and partly because he's looked around for weeks without a real answer.

Lo and behold, the "off campus" housing is a large home (6 bedrooms) on the north face of Point Loma...just five blocks from the ocean and with a view of the north San Diego beaches.

The space available is a master bedroom with walkin closet, a private bath, and a balcony that overlooks the Pacific.

Before he found out who else was living there with Danielle, they discussed a number of things....and it seemed to be shaping up nicely as a real opportunity.

The icing on the cake (or what will eventually make him rethink the decision)? There will be a total of 5 other roommates in that six bedroom house....all coeds at San Diego State!

Bummer, he thought. This location. This view. And I gotta put up with 5 college girls if I decide to move in...

He's invited to come and meet them on Saturday night. That will make or break his decision.

He said casually, "Well, dad, somebody's gotta rent it. Seems like a sweet deal from here!"

"5" coeds??? If I wasn't married, I'd be there in a HEART BEAT! "Shhh" don't tell Meshell that!

It DOES sound like a SWEET deal, heck, I'll do the cookin', cleanin' whatever!

Hah! This reminds me of my daughter's second yr. of college! She rented a house with 5 fellas! Three of them had gone thru school with her as they were all growing up......worried?? NO! It was an interesting year, but no problems......especially after they realized she meant business when she said SHE was NOT the housemaid!!

Actually.....each of those girls parents will probably breath a little easier knowing there's a male in the house........somethin' about safety.....p

Ya know....when I posted my last reply, I wasn't awake just yet, I got to thinking about it, "Living with "5" women?" Are you NUTZ? I can't handle living with ONE! "LOL!" JUST KIDDING, I love Michelle, HONEST, really.......*shudders at the thought of living with 5 women* I hope there's more than ONE bathroom in that house! Can you IMAGINE the condition of it PLUS having an urgent NEED to use it, he might as well set up a porta potty outside, he'll NEVER get to use the one inside

Just to put some closure on this story...since most of you care less where someone else's son end's up living...

BUT, for those who might.

Jarrod and a coworker, along with the coworker's girlfriend, have signed a lease for a ground floor apartment in the heart of San Diego's Mission Valley. He is virtually across the street from Qualcomm Stadium (home of the Chargers) and can catch a trolley downtown if he doesn't want to drive.

He is now only 25 minutes from work and can carpool with his roommate.

He is also just a short drive from one of San Diego's nicest malls, the Fashion Valley Mall.

Sooooo....while he didn't end up rooming with a handful of fair college maidens, he is a happy fellow nonetheless.

...and when he is happy, then his mom and dad are happy too.

End of story (or is it just the beginning?)

...ah yes, MF, as a matter of fact the lucky fellow has learned much about women and love in his young life....dating one for almost 3 years and another for over 4.

Perhaps at the outset with this opportunity he had visions of ..... well, THOSE visions were interrupted by others of him being kept awake at night by tears asking advice on relationships...and love...with tales of flat tires needing repair by morning...and....

He's a sucker for those beautiful eyes and smiles, and perhaps he knew he could never say no with any conviction. Five or six to one are terrible odds in that situation.

...and well, MF, you know how we can't live with 'em and we can't live without 'em!

The new situation will be just fine for him.

Steve his grades will probably be glad he made the decision he did! ;-) Sounds like he's got his dad's head on his shoulders! That should serve him very well in the future :-)

Im sure he is better off in the long run with the decision he made... Nothing like a leggy lady or 5  to drive a young man to destraction (especially when he should be doing school work) ;)

Sounds like a great location Steve, and it's got to be more fun rooming with established friends! Best of luck to your son!
