American Idol
In lieu of all the Apprentice threads on the boards, I thought I'd make one for American Idol. Who all has been watching? I admit, I've always made my distaste for reality TV widely known, but I can't get enough of Idol. Who else here watches it? Is anyone else POed that John Stevens hasn't been voted out yet? He is the worst of the final 12 and yet he has NEVER once been in the bottom three, and yet, people like Jennifer Hudson who are GREAT, get screwed over. It was only until this week that she finally got recognized for the talent that she has. She had always been (undeservingly) in the bottom three every since the final 12 competition began. And I am STILL mad that Amy Adams got booted. She was one of the top 5!

My younger sister watches it all the time. I think it's just as dumb as most of the other Reality TV type programs. Actually, I really enjoy watching the episodes at the beginning of the season to see how god-awful some of the first-round contestants are and the judges' insults, but other than that...

O.K. ....OtherHD.....gotta admit, this show has reeled me in also!
My evening time at home is very limited (teach 3 nights a week, take care of Mom on Friday's).....so just sittin' on the couch watching a show that doesn't have to make me follow along is quite refreshing!! It's fun to see how they get better each week....some of them anyway....I agree about John Stevens.....he certainly does NOT have "star appeal"! I love watching that George fella....such talent!
By the way, what does your name stand for??......p

lol..the HD stands for hurricanedude. Years ago when I signed up at TWC message boards, I used the name hurricanedude, not knowing there was a hurricanedude at the old storm2k boards. When I joined storm2k in January 2002, I had to use the name The_other_HD, and then shortened it to OtherHD.
Colin, I agree with you about Diana DiGarmo, but I'm kind of disappointed in the way she skipped off after being announced she was safe. The scene with Jasmine and Camille was so sweet, but Diana just skipped merrilly off without shaking hands or hugging or anything. She does have talent though, and I would put her in the top 5 along with Jennifer, LaToya, George, and Fantasia.

I confess!!!!! And your comments about John and Jennifer are right on!!!
What I find interesting is that if you wade through the harshness of simon's comments, he is usually exactly right in his assessment. As far as the early rounds, a lot of that is a set up just for ratings. there were contestants here in Houston that were passed over because "they had their quota of good ones" according to some of them. It could be sour grapes but I heard the young lady sing and she was good. On the other hand, I will never understand how some of those who audition can even come close to thinking they even have a voice, much less a singing voice!!!!

Oh, and one thing that I am not happy about is the way many people vote. On the AI message board there is a huge thread with people saying how many times they voted for a certain person. Most said they voted over 100 times. I think that's messed up and that AI needs to have a system set up to where once you call, your number is blocked until the next week. It messes up the voting process otherwise, and is the reason horrible singers such as JOHN STEVENS are still in this thing!

Hmmm....thought your name had somethin' to do with "Harley's"!!
I agree about your Simon comment....although he is boo'ed and dissed, he is usually right on target with his comments......have to admire his honest approach to his judging job.
Fantasia is a good singer, but her attitude comes across as pretty sarcastic.....something that would be viewed very negative if she won......still thinkin' George is "star material"!!.....p

I like George as well. I've been a viewer since AI1. To me, noone stands out this year like Kelly and Tamyra in the first season and Ruben and Clay in the second season. I can't beleive that both Johns are in it still. I feel bad for John Stevens because he's so young. JPL has a great personality, but he's not cutting it either. This year the audience is voting for personality and not talent, though this week it was good to see Camille go. She is definately suited for R&B. I liked Amy as well and I wish that she was still in the competition.
