From today on, Nimitz High School will be on a zero-tolerance policy on fighting. Any fighting at school will result in 20 days in Alternative school. If a student was fighting and was in Alternative school before, the student will be in for 30 days.
I'm just glad that they now uped the consequences after a dozen fights the past few months.

Also, if the fighting is severe, the police may arrest one or more students depending on the situation.

That is kind of strict, but I guess if it has to happen, then it will.

If anything it is light. Excuse me for being an old fuddy duddy, but students are at school for one thing and that is to learn and fighting is not a part of learning, no matter how you look at it. The troublemakers should be taken out of the situation immediately and kept in an alternative situation till they choose to learn or are expelled(I hate the thought of expelling ANY student, but sometimes it is the only alternative left with some of them).

It is good that school administration is ready to stand firm against a hostile environment. You can't learn if you feel threatened...before, during, or after school.
In my day, there was a one-day suspension for not wearing a belt or if you were caught wearing jeans. And you'd get sent home immediately.
Public school, too. Private school was worse!
My high school...

Amen! Schools are going to have to toughen up to get a handle on discipline these days.

Like what I mention in the "It's nearing spring break..." topic, 2 girls who were fighting got pepper sprayed. I got a whiff of that stuff in the hallways when I was walking to the restrooms.

Just go back to corporal punishment. Maybe 5-10 paddle swats along with 10 days for instigating a fight would convince people not to start trouble

I knw that it was a deterrent when I was in school. That and the 20 or so licks you would get when you got home for embarrassing the family LOL

Ain't that the truth, Marshall! My mom could dole out punishment much more harsh than anyone at school could do. That was why I NEVER got into any kind of trouble at school. Dad, on the other hand, left the punishing up to my mom.
