:D George and I were at the Post Office yesterday and he noticed a poster on the wall behind the counter with all the different collectible stamps. We asked the Clerk if they were available and he said they would be coming out in some time in October!! They are way kewl so make sure you get yours this Fall! 8-)

Cloud stamps have been in the works for quite a while. Glad to hear they will hit the streets with the mailcarriers. Neither rain, nor snow, nor hail will stop them from delivering....

The U.S.P.S. was unable to deliver mail during the Blizzard of '96 across the Northeast in January 1996.

Here's a link I just had sent to me about the upcoming cloud stamps. The history of this effort goes all the way back to the 1980's and includes some help by, among others, none other than Senator Edward Kennedy.

Although some among us have drifted from the ranks of TWC, I understand that The Weather Channel plans to promote the purchase and arrival of the stamps when they go on sale in the fall.

Good for them.

I was at the AMS meeting in Seattle in January, and they brought in the Postmaster for the Washington area to make the official "unveiling" at the Awards Banquet.

The stamps are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! A friend of mine, retired from NOAA/NESDIS and currently working with his wife in weather education in the Washington, DC, area, was the driving force in getting these stamps developed. From what I understand, one of his photos is on the stamps! WOW!! :)

I recall my start in the gov't many moons ago, and he asked me to pass around a petition for these cloud stamps (back in the mid 1980s!!!), and I had my family and co-workers sign the petition, and even my boyfriend (now husband)!!!

I received an e-mail from a friend (another NOAA employee in DC) back in November with the new stamps announced. Yes, the first day of issue appears to be October 1st (how appropriate, the new gov't fiscal year), but I don't know where they will be issued. BOY, I would be thrilled if it happened in Boston!!!

Oh, there will be a nice article in an upcoming Weatherwise magazine about this, too. BAMS also had the photo.

For those who missed it....here's the link:

Enjoy! :D

At least one recommendation I've seen has the unveiling of the stamps perhaps taking place at the famous Blue Hill Observatory...a place with great history and ideally suited for such an honor. Hope that works out.

very cool... i have a few stamp plates with my fave being the reptile and amphibian series issued 2003. definitely look forward to this one however, won't need to remind myself, the lady at our post office always shows me the new stamps since she knows i'm into art. p

(thanks guys for the unexpected compliments. unfortunately i don't think i have what it takes to get on to a stamp; would be nice though.)

Boy would I be one happy camper if the official First Date of Issue happened at Blue Hill...my old stomping grounds pre-NOAA, and where I met my husband!

I've got a message into my friend (the "driving force"), and awaiting his response. I'm sure he'll find out where this will happen.

P.S. AZskyman...hello. Yes, you know who this is. Thank you for your kind words about BOX and Outreach. Appreciated.

Hi there again Turtle...funny how I can recognize people from the past without ever seeing them! Been about 10 years, I suspect! Great to see you posting here. You have such a wealth of info on weather and climate in the Northeast (especially Massachusetts) that I'm sure readers here will enjoy your visits.

I do believe I know who that person (and his wife) might be. Hint..."HTWorks!" Am I right?
