I wonder how many are ready to sell their gas guzzling SUV'S now Cracks me up, I see these *yuppies* drive up from Phoenix, Tucson in their Ford Expeditions, GMC Yukons, drop $60 to fill those suckers now, wonder how this will effect the summer driving season, I doubt we'll see to many of those HUGE RV'S on the road!

I have a Chevy Tahoe and a more fuel efficient vehicle. I have not driven my Tahoe in about a month. I refuse to pay those high prices and have it sucked right out two days later!! Then have to pay the 54 bucks to fill it up again. No way!!

I think it will have an impact on RV'ers, especially those on a fixed income.

Luckily we don't have one, but we'd probably never drive ours if we had one.

Ah hell park em in the back yard and have a BBQ.

We have a Surburban but it will stay on the road. Summer's coming and the boat (another gas guzzler ) has to get from the driveway to the marina. Oh well, just have to tighten the belt because the boat is going to go to the water.

the price for gas is outrageous. the fact that they continue to go up even when crude prices have eased a bit further shows gouging on big oils part.

the scary part is that in the US we still pay 1/3 -1/4 of what they do in europe.

Actually, I was thinking of buying a Honda CRV - not a huge SUV.

I wonder how well President Bush's tax incentive for purchasing SUV's will go over now?

Funny, Dennis - I was driving to work, this morning, and was actually noting SUV's on the road....it was like one-out of-three!

I know breeze, I don't get it, ya know, why would city dwellers drive a 4x4 SUV? That's always got me, you know what we see a LOT of up here? Hummers, the NEW, IMPROVED Hummer, now WHY on earth does one need a hummer, actually for us, they would be GREAT cuz of all the back woods we travel but someone in Phoenix needing one???? I'm sorry, I will NOT make payments on a vechile that costs 2 times as much as my new home did for cryin' out loud!

OK, now how about diesel powered pick ups? Our neighbors have one, they start the thing 1/2 before they leave in the mornings, sounds like a damn truck stop. Don't get me wrong, diesels DO HAVE A PLACE and a need, just not at 0330 in the morning! OH, BTW, diesel up here is now over 1.81 gallon!

We live in suburbia out here, east of Cincinnati. Lots of families. Used to be you'd see mini-vans lined up at soccer games, just one after the next. We used to joke we'd never own one (having only 2 kids we didn't see the need) and still don't. Now it's SUV's along with the mini-vans. Me? I drive a Honda Civic, my third civic since 1976. Great gas mileage, hatch back really comes in handy for hauling things. Doesn't quite work out well with a bunch of teens though (I didn't think of this phase when I bought it 4 years ago)!!! My 15 year old daughter wants my car sooooo bad, as if I'm going to just hand it over to her. Uh huh, that's going to happen....not (we're not handing her a car, no way, she'll have to at least pay half for a good used one, maybe). But I'm getting off track here - I was thinking about all the SUV owners in my area too. Wonder if they're all dreading owning them yet? LOL

traded it. I drive an old '92 Chevy Lumina, now. It's good on gas and
paid for....

Lol i feel bad wanting them to not drive suv's anymore but it is satisfying after seeing them whiz by with reckless abandon.

My husband drives a pick up for work which is bad enough on gas! I have a zippy little GEO storm gsi. It is fast and is really good on gas. We also have our South African Mercedes here (it is a right hand drive...very confusing to drive here)

The funny thing is Diesel is cheaper than regular gas in South Africa

I think I'll invest the $600 needed to get my '89 Escort to pass inspection. It gets 35 mpg gas mileage, and about 100 miles per quart of oil.

I have a Chevy Avalanche - its not the greatest on gas - but it depends on how you drive too that can consume alot of gas. I was blessed to get laid off from my job last summer where I drove 100 miles roundtrip and got a new job where I drive 10 miles roundtrip now. I can go 1 1/2 weeks in my avalanche which is close to 400 miles on a tankful of gas.

Our gas prices here at the cheap stations is 1.58 and going up - so I can't change vehicles - but I can change the way I drive.

I remember,not too long ago,your concern over the very existance of your little MountainBurgs during the draught and the devastating fires.
You mentioned the need for tourism,as a staple of your micro and macro economies.Why then do you judge,snicker and belittle us pathetic 'City Dwellers'?The very hand that feeds your economy?
I am a suburban 'City Dweller' and do not find a any snide snickering to outrageous gas prices as being humourous in any way.The truckers..the independent truckers in particular are really feeling the crunch,as Diesel costs are out of control..which means for them,bankrupcy.Which means,the hardworking Trucker 'City Dweller' from Phx or TUS won't be able to afford a trip to the White Mtns..or anywhere else for that matter.
I happen to own a Ford ExplorerXLT 4x4 and love it.It has been the best car I have ever owned.It has a 4.0L V-6 and although the mileage is not terrific,it is as Ticka says,all in the way one drives it.I think twice on I-10 or I-19 to do the 75mph posted speed limit.I may set the cruise at 66mph and arrive a moment or two later.It makes a difference in milage,no doubt.I know that SUV bashing is all the rage now.Enjoy it.Next summer,when the SUV/'City Dwellers' catch the attitudes of the locals up there...they may find San Diego as a viable alternative in which to spend thier City Dwellin' SUV Gas Guzzlin Yuppie Tourist $$$$$$$$.

Moreover...I have no idea what your neighbor does for a living Dennis,howver..I can tell you this.Diesels have incredible low end Torque Ft/Lbs vs BHP.Which means,they are terrific towing vehicles.They also,if properly taken care of,good for 3-400,000 miles before an engine rebuild.
Also,they rely on high compression via high pressure ignition of the fuel,as opposed to spark plug low compression engines.This requires at times,a warm up of the engine,to bring her to full operating temperature.The knock on Diesels is that below 15deg F,the Fuel,which is exposed to elements such as water and condensation,can turn to a semi gel-like substance,clogging the Fuel Injectors and overworking the fuel pump.This is why the idea of an Aircraft Deisel Engine,never really 'took off'.The remedy is parking it inside,or using a block heater,as I had on my Mercedes Turbo Diesel.When I would go to Lake Tahoe,the Valet at the Hotel would just plug the 'Benz into a reg outlet for the block heater,and I was on my way in the morning.
Lastly,I suppose that some ppl don't really 'need' to buy anything.I also know that some will never take an off the beaten path route in the Jeep or Hummer H2.So what?Last time I checked,this was America...not Communist China.We could all just ride State Sponsored Bicycles and Yuppie City Dwellers would be eliminated.Would'nt that be boring.

The economy as a whole is a mess,and I am concerned.My children's education comes before any SUV or material goods...unless it aides us in being a family.At 49.00 to fill up the Explorer..'Chaser 1' is indeed for sale.
It is sad,because my 16 yr old son has wanted it for years.I cannot afford to insure and put gas in such a vehicle any longer.
I would like to by a Toyota Precis Hybrid Car.Bob Walkup,Mayor of Tucson drives one and loves it..and he's a conservative Repulican!If it's good enough for a former Hughes Engineer and now Mayor if Tucson,it's good enough for me!

Well, I drive a 2003 Mazda MPV and I love it!!

My mom, however drives a 1997 Ford Expedition and she loves her SUV! It is perfect for her. She rarely drives it (it only has about 28,000 miles on it) but when she does, she needs the space it provides. She feels very safe when hauling up to 7 of her passengers (usually grandchildren) around. Most of her miles have come from trips to see her parents where her and my dad needed every inch of that vehicle to either haul items there or haul items back (or both). Before her SUV, she had a Honda Accord and when she went shopping, she frequently had to call my dad to come pick up items in his pickup because she couldn't get much in her Accord, especially anything large. My parents have 11 grandchildren and they spoil them rotten so they often are making purchases for them, sometimes large items. Their SUV has come in handy numerous times. And yet, only 28,000 miles since 1997! And now when she does go somewhere, she feels like she ought to hang a sign on the window saying how many miles are on her car and what year it is because so many people like to harass SUV owners.
