I think if it is done right it would not have much of an impact on the refuge in alaska. It would hopefully help us to not rely on mideast oil and maybe stabilize the prices too. But it will probably be years before anything happens

It's long over due. What better place to get our oil than some completely useless hunk of land which is never going to be an Urban center. I never could understnd the Environmentalists on this. I mean what is the deal...are we going to put a few Polar Bears out of a home?

Well I have to differ with you on your opinion J - Alaska is a frontier land. Agreed its probably never going to be a metro-mecca - but of the beauty and nature of the land - that is what America is about. My parents went to Alaska and its an absolutely gorgeous country.
If this drilling can be done with minimun impact to the beauty of nature - I say we need to tap this soucre - but to destory nature to get to it - NO WAY.
Just my two cents.

Your's is the opinion of many, and I can respect that....however, when push comes to shove, and a gallon of Gas is costing you $5/Gal. you might change your tune.
There is no argument here that Alaska isn't beautiful. That's great. However, if I don't ever go to Alaska to witness its beauty, I won't feel that I've been cheated. I also would like to go to Hawaii some day but I doubt I could ever afford it. Life will go on if I don't make it there. I'd be more concerned about where the hell we are going to get our oil in 40 years (assuming we haven't come up with some alternative energy source). The time is now to prepare for the future. Actually, the time has passed, but better late than never.

It's not like we're going to wipe out Alaska. It's a small part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and it would keep us from being so dependent on foreign oil.

This has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative....

IT"S MY opinion and My opinion isn't
swayed by a political party..If yours is then I feel sorry for you. I simply think if there is another way rather then disrupting that land then so be it. I am not willing to pay $5 for gas either. But believe it or not everything in life isn't conservative or liberal..Get a clue! :o

Rainband...
Unless we're going to forever depend on foreign oil, I think this is our best option.

rainband....I'm sorry I ruffled your feathers enough to tell me to "Get a Clue" Yes..you are correct in that everything is not Liberal/Conservative. However, the CORE values that each party represents our clearly divided. I don't feel sorry for me and my beliefs at all. In fact, I'm quite proud to be a loyal American, patriotic, a champion of rights for the unborn etc..etc... I have absolutely no problem siding on the morally uplifting and righteous side that defines Conservatism.
But this is America and everybody has the right to choose (not to be confused with the right to kill).

I was just trying to tell j..I am not liberal or conservative..it wasn't really about the refuge..If push came to shove...It is our best option..

Having been in Alaska during the construction and operation of the Trans Alaskan pipeline I can say from first hand experience that great care was taken with the wildlife and environment. I have no problem at all with the development of the additional resources there. I am a conservationist at heart as well as a sportsman. You will never find a proup of people that care as much about the environment as Alaskan residents. They love their land ad will make sure that it's protected!

that should have been done long ago. democrats wont allow it though. the dems have no solutions for anything, just obstruction

Good post MF. I don't want to pay $5 a gallon. But is there enough oil here to make us not depended on Foreign Oil. As Americans - conservative/liberal or indifferent we are a nation of consumers. And the only solution everyone has is get more oil - I think for us to be less depended on foreign oil - we need to find alternatives.
Interesting to see how this is handled with the pending war in IRAQ?

Of course we should begin drilling. If a war in Iraq spins out of control due to Isreali involvement or whatever, we need an alternate source of oil. Many products besides gas are from oil (any clothes made of of polyester are from oil). Drilling there allows to function at the same high level as we have eben and I am not willing to save wildlife at our expense

as i said everyone, dont worry about a few animals. dems wont allow oil exploration. bush cant even get a perfectly qualified judge through the senate.

That just shows you that the Dems are Dems first and Americans second
